PharmaCARE (We CARE about YOUR health®) is one of the world’s most successful pharmaceutical companies, enjoying a reputation as a caring, ethical and well-run company that produces high-quality products that save millions of lives and enhance the quality of life for millions of others. The company offers free and discounted drugs to low-income consumers, has a foundation that sponsors healthcare educational programs and scholarships, and its CEO serves on the PhRMA board. PharmaCARE recently launched a new initiative, We CARE about YOUR world®, pledging its commitment to the environment through recycling, packaging changes and other green initiatives, despite the fact that the company’s lobbying efforts and PAC have successfully defeated environmental laws and regulations, including extension of the Superfund tax, which was created by Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).

Based in New Jersey, PharmaCARE maintains a large manufacturing facility in the African nation of Colberia, where the company has found several “healers” eager to freely share information about indigenous cures and an abundance of Colberians willing to work for $1.00 a day, harvesting plants by walking five (5) miles into and out of the jungle carrying baskets that, when full, weigh up to fifty (50) pounds. Due to the low standard of living in Colberia, much of the population lives in primitive huts with no electricity or running water. PharmaCARE’s executives, however, live in a luxury compound, complete with a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a golf course. PharmaCARE’s extensive activities in Colberia have destroyed habitat and endangered native species.

Decide whether or not PharmaCARE’s actions with respect to the indigenous people of Colberia would be ethical in accordance with each of the following ethical theories:

Utilitarianism
Deontology
Virtue ethics
Ethics of care
f. Your own moral / ethical compass

Formulate and solve an integer programming model to help Rowntown Cab schedule its drivers.

Integer Linear Programming Question: I do need to see the Excel and Solver solutions so I can figure out how to solve this.

Rowntown Cab Company has 70 drivers that it must schedule in three 8-hour shifts. However, the demand for cabs in the metropolitan area varies dramatically according to time of the day. The slowest period is between midnight and 4:00 A.M. the dispatcher receives few calls, and the calls that are received have the smallest fares of the day. Very few people are going to the airport at that time of the night or taking other long distance trips. It is estimated that a driver will average $80 in fares during that period. The largest fares result from the airport runs in the morning. Thus, the drivers who sart their shift during the period from 4:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. average $500 in total fares, and drivers who start at 8:00 A.M. average $420. Drivers who start at noon average $300, and drivers who start at 4:00 P.M. average $270. Drivers who start at the beginning of the 8:00 P.M. to midnight period earn an average of $210 in fares during their 8-hour shift.

To retain customers and acquire new ones, Rowntown must maintain a high customer service level. To do so, it has determined the minimum number of drivers it needs working during every 4-hour time segment- 10 from midnight to 4:00 A.M. 12 from 4:00 to 8:00 A.M. 20 from 8:00 A.M. to noon, 25 from noon to 4:00 P.M., 32 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., and 18 from 8:00 P.M. to midnight.

a. Formulate and solve an integer programming model to help Rowntown Cab schedule its drivers.

b. If Rowntown has a maximum of only 15 drivers who will work the late shift from midnight to 8:00 A.M., reformulate the model to reflect this complication and solve it

c. All the drivers like to work the day shift from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., so the company has decided to limit the number of drivers who work this 8-hour shift to 20. Reformulate the model in (b) to reflect this restriction and solve it.

He is planning to spend either $320,000 or $380,000 on rehabilitation expenditures. 27. LO.3 In March 2014, Sparrow Corporation hired three individuals – Austin, Adam, and Angela – all of whom are certified as long-term family assistance recipients. Each of these individuals earned $11,000 during 2014. Only Adam continued to work for Sparrow in 2015, and he earned $13,500 then.

In March 2015, Sparrow hired Sam, who also is certified as a long-term family assistance recipient. During 2015, Sam earned $12,000.

Compute Sparrow’s work opportunity credit for 2014 and 2015.

If Sparrow pays total wages to it employees of $325,000 in 2104 and $342,000 in 2015, what is the entity’s wage deduction for those years?

33. LO.4, 7 Cooper National is incorporated in Alabama. It generated a $5 million profit on its overseas operations this year. Jimenez paid $1 million in income taxes to various countries on these profits. Jimenez’s marginal Federal income tax rate is 35%. Compute the Jimenez foreign tax credit and carryovers for the year.

40. LO.4, 7 Bernadette, a longtime client of yours, is an architect and the president of the local Rotary chapter. To keep up to date with the lasted developments in her profession, she attends continuing education seminars offered by the architecture school at State University. This year, Bernadette spends $2,000 on course tuition to attend such seminars. She also spends another $400 on architecture books during the year. Bernadette’s son is a senior majoring in engineering at the University of the Midwest.

During the calendar year, Bernadette’s son incurs the following expenses: $8,200 for tuition ($4,100 per semester) and $750 for books and course materials. Bernadette’s son, whom she claims as a dependent, lives at home while attending school full-time. Gaining Entrance to a Community

The Sunset High Student Organizing Committee: A Youth Leadership Success Story

You are to view this video and complete the questions. It has to be 250-300 words.

In this example, the community’s mobilization efforts were acknowledged, and some rewarded by the local government and public health departments. When effective community mobilization efforts are identified by public health departments, it is common for a representative from the department to be assigned to work with the group and help support and continue its work. Imagine that you are a health promotion specialist at the health department and have been assigned to serve as the department’s liaison to one of these groups.

One of the first and most important steps in the community organizing process is gaining entrance into and the trust of the community with which you are assigned to work. Who we are as individuals has a big impact on how readily accepted we might be by a community and what our role can and should be when we work with them. In your discussion post:

Analyze what effect your personal characteristics (e.g. age, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic background, etc.) might have on your interactions with this community. Questions to consider:
How are you different from or similar to the community?
How do you think you would be perceived by the community based on your personal characteristics?
Why might the community be hesitant to involve you in their work?
Examine what issues might arise for you in gaining access to and the trust of the community.
Formulate strategies you would use to effectively gain access to and the trust of the community.
Identify at least two areas for personal development that would help you to be able to effectively work with the community. Questions to consider:
What experience do you have working with this community?
What do you know or not know about this community and the issue?
What particular work might you have to do to effectively gain the trust of the community?
What are your “developmental edges” (what professional development do you need) for community mobilization work?
