Watch the video of President Obama’s March 18, 2008, speech at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia regarding the role race played in the 2008 presidential campaign. This speech, sometimes dubbed the “More Perfect Union” speech, can be found in several locations on the Web. Two suggested locations are provided below.
After viewing and reading the speech, write a two-to three-page paper in which you respond to the following questions:
President Obama chronicles the resentments of blacks and whites and states, “Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze….” (Obama, 2008, para. 36.) Do you think the resentments of each subgroup are valid? Why or why not? Do you agree with his statement that the anger and resentments are counterproductive? Why or why not?
In the speech, President Obama quotes William Faulkner, “The past isn’t dead and buried; in fact, it isn’t even past.” (Obama, 2008, para. 27.) What do you think this statement means, and what implications does it have for race relations in the United States?
Do you believe a trans-racial society is desirable and possible in the United States? In your opinion, what changes would have to take place in our culture and/or our communications with one another for this societal change to take place?
2. Take a look at the World POPClock where you can compare the ever changing world population with years gone by. The current world population is over 7 billion people. Do you believe that the U.S. should be concerned about overpopulation and that immediate action is warranted, or do you believe that the risks of overpopulation have been grossly overstated? What about other parts of the world? It is a requirement to properly cite at least one source from your research.
PSYC221 Personality Theories
(1) First identify one or two aspects of the course that added to your knowledge of personality development, in general, and explain why.
(2) Then identify at least one thing you learned that is directly related to your own area of interest. For example, if your area of interest is criminal justice, what can you take away from this class that will help you with your future work in that area? If your area of interest is psychology, how will what you learned in this class help you be successful in future psychology courses? If your area of interest is being a better spouse and/or parent, then what new tools can you glean from this course for that purpose? If there is more than one area to which you think you can apply what you have learned, you may, of course, discuss more than one, but only one application of learning to interest area is required for this last post.

Student: Hannah
Age: 8
Grade: 3
Hannah is a third-grade student who transferred to Cartwright Elementary School late in the fall. Her teacher, Mrs. Pei, has noticed that she seems to struggle with many independent reading assignments. When Mrs. Pei administered the mid-year universal screening measure, she was not surprised to see that Hannah’s score had fallen below the grade-level benchmark. Consequently, Mrs. Pei decided to monitor Hannah’s reading performance once a week for seven weeks using a measure of reading fluency. The rate of growth she is expected to achieve by the end of seven weeks is 1.2. Hannah’s scores are in the graph and table below.
Compose a 500-750-word evaluation of Hannah. Incorporate the following:
Research and Review journal articles on response-to-intervention (RTI) activities, including data-based decision-making, determining performance level, and making tier placement decisions.
Using the seven weeks of progress monitoring data outlined above, calculate Hannah’s slope (change in x over the change in y) and identify the change in the number of words read correctly from beginning to end. SEE ATTACHED

Assignment 2: Reflections on Racial Discrimination
Franklin hears about people being discriminated against at the workplace and in society but rarely experiences it first hand. Cortez, on the other hand, speaks English poorly and is often subject to derogatory comments from peers and coworkers.
Reflect on your experience with racial discrimination.
Identify examples of racial discrimination and provide examples you have personally witnessed or heard about firsthand from the following three realms:

Describe a racial incident pertaining to each realm in detail. Explain why you believe this is racial discrimination.
Explain how this situation could have been handled to avoid discrimination against those belonging to another race.
We have looked at where fashion began and where we see it heading. But what does fashion mean to you? How does/will fashion affect your area of study? There are eight elements of thought in reasoning. We often use more than one element at the same time. For example, your Point of View includes Assumptions. Therefore, we can assume that these elements are two aspects of the same thing.
Analyze the parts of thought and reasoning and re-organize the eight elements into four distinct categories by pairing elements together similar to the example above.
