Trust and Deception

You have probably heard the warning, “the computer is not always right,” but it’s still tempting to believe computer-generated results. This Application challenges you to consider consequences when the computer is not only wrong, but deliberately so.

2.Social Stratification Systems: Caste vs. Class

India’s caste system, in which there are four major castes, or varnas, is a social construct that is ascribed and immutable: people are born into this system and cannot move between castes. In American society, class systems, of which there are five, are social rankings based largely on economic position. In America, unlike India, one can transcend class through economic or social success. After reading “Overlapping identities under liberalization: Gender and case in India,” assess whether or not an individual can transcend class in the United States.

Assignment 3: Business-Level and Corporate-Level Strategies 

Due Week 6

Choose an industry you have not yet written about in this course, and one publicly traded corporation within that industry. Research the company on its own Website, the public filings on the Securities and Exchange Commission EDGAR database (http://www.sec.gov/edgar.shtml), in the University’s online databases, and any other sources you can find. The annual report will often provide insights that can help address some of these questions.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

1. Analyze the business-level strategies for the corporation you chose to determine the business-level strategy you think is most important to the long-term success of the firm and whether or not you judge this to be a good choice. Justify your opinion.
2. Analyze the corporate-level strategies for the corporation you chose to determine the corporate-level strategy you think is most important to the long-term success of the firm and whether or not you judge this to be a good choice. Justify your opinion.
3. Analyze the competitive environment to determine the corporation’s most significant competitor.  Compare their strategies at each level and evaluate which company you think is most likely to be successful in the long term. Justify your choice.
4. Determine whether your choice from Question 3 would differ in slow-cycle and fast-cycle markets.

A forensic laboratory is responsible for examining any unidentified skeletal remains provided from a crime scene and trying to recreate the identity of a person by using those skeletal remains. One of the major structures used to identify victims from a crime that have left them unable to be recognized or unidentifiable is the skull. It is important to know that teeth are embedded in the skull and that muscles are attached to the skull.

A forensic team was sent to a fire that occurred in a warehouse. Initially, the firemen said that the building was empty, but on the final walk-through of the building, they discovered what appeared to be burned human remains. The forensic team gathered all of the burned victim’s bones, tissue, and other pieces of clothing and took them to the laboratory for investigation.
