Case Brief

Research a court case in which the defendant is charged with “honest services fraud”. This type of crime is referred to in a 28-word sentence of 18 U.S.C. § 1346 (the federal mail and wire fraud statute), added by the United States Congress in 1988, which states: \”For the purposes of this chapter, the term scheme or artifice to defraud includes a scheme or artifice to deprive another of the intangible right of honest services.\” [See, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honest_services_fraud].

You must use a case where there was an actual trial; plea bargains or other truncated cases are not appropriate for this assignment. You must attach the case along with your paper as part of this assignment.

The rest of the instructions are attached.

Tayeb Salih’s Season of Migration to the North as a postcolonial revision of Othello

Discuss the intertextual relation of Tayeb Salih’s Season of Migration to the North to Shakepeare’s Othello. How does Salih draw from and revise the story of Othello in his work? How can Salih’s novel be considered a postcolonial revision of Othello? You will want to research the history of Arab writers’ engagement with Shakespeare’s Othello, including and especially Salih’s. Do not use block quotes unless absolutely necessary. Thesis should be at the end of the first paragraph. This paper should recieve an A- for a college student at the Bachelor level. It should not be written at a Ph d level. Thank You.

King v. Burwell

The second paper is based on the same court case, King v. Burwell, from the Supreme Court’s last term which you covered in your first paper. Write a 3-4 page summary of any three briefs filed in King v. Burwell (approximately 3-4 pages total for the entire paper and 1,000 words maximum; thus, about 1 page per brief). The briefs can be a brief of a party or an amicus curiae. In your paper, compare and contrast the major arguments in the briefs with the arguments used by the majority in the Supreme Court case you briefed for the first paper (or if it’s an amicus that argues things that are not in the majority opinion, explain the additional arguments). The briefs can be viewed/downloaded at http://www.americanbar.org/publications/preview_home/14-1114.html?cq_ck=1419891338472. Also I have attached my first paper to kind of give you my tone and the changes my professor wanted so you can incorporate it into the second.
