Prepare Response Paper 2 on one of the poems studied in Module 5-Poetry 1.

1) Provide an explication (like a rephrase) of the poem where you re-write the poem in your own words.
2) Identify and characterize (describe gender, personality, likes and dislikes, fears, beliefs, and so on) the speaker/voice in the poem.
3) Analyze the poem’s sound and rhyme patterns by applying the sound and rhyme techniques studied in this module to the poem (for example, euphony, cacophony, onomatopoeia, alliteration, assonance, perfect and imperfect rhymes, alliterative rhymes, end rhymes, and so on).
4) Analyze the poem’s rhythmic techniques (for example, repetition, arrangement of words, the meter used, and so on).
5) Apply any literary criticisms that may be relevant to explaining this poem.

Note the following:
• 1) You must identify the Criticism you are using (by naming it) in your paper.
• 2) In the Introduction ensure you provide the following:
o The poet’s name, some relevant information on the poet that relates to your analysis (based on your research), and the story’s title (in quotation marks).
• 3) Ensure you include at least two research sources you have reviewed through the library databases that support something you have said about the poet or about the story.
• 4) Ensure you have a thesis statement that announces what the entire paper will be about.
o Thesis=topic + main idea (techniques used by the author and the poet’s purpose); Example: Thomas Hardy, in his poem “Ruined Maid,” uses repetition, alliteration, rhyme, and rhythm to effectively give a history lesson of the lives of women in early twentieth century thus making the poem open to a Historical Criticism.
• 5) Include in-text citations to cite the poem and the sources cited.
o When citing from the poem, cite the line number of the poem only. The first time you cite a line, capitalize the “L” (Line 3), but for all subsequent times, do not capitalize it (line 5)
o When citing the editor of the textbook, cite the editor of the text as follows with his or her name and page number: (Meyer 230)
o Cite a research source as follows with author’s name and page number or paragraph number, if there is no page number: (Goldstein 12) OR
(Goldstein par. 3)
o Cite a research source as follows with no author or page number: (“An Intimate Look at Langston Hughes” par. 3)
• 6) Include a Works Cited page.

You are assigned this case study from your Engineering Ethics text book by Fleddermann. Write a professional paper discussing the case. Give a brief background of the case, and answer the questions at the end of the chapter on that case in narrative form. The paper should be at least 700 words long. The paper should be written in third person. Talk to a registered professional engineer about this topic. At the end of the paper compare your opinions on the case with those of the PE. This portion of the paper may be written in first person. Submit the final paper in the Safeassign assignment.

Write an essay focused on diction in which you examine closely the interconnections among words, sounds, and etymologies in order to arrive at a cogent interpretation of the poem.

Poets make systematic choices about what words to retain in a poem, and so it is sensible to guess that words connect with other words to form patterns of meaning above and beyond the literal meaning of lines or stanzas.

Investigate and include definitions of important words in a poem by looking them up in the Oxford English Dictionary (online or in the library) or in a good dictionary and an etymological dictionary (again, online or in the library). You should notice, as you contemplate the various, lengthy definitions for the words you investigate, a "reaching over" from one word to another.

Your essay should make visible the connections among words in the poem rendered invisible to us by our daily use of English. To what effects are specific words being used singly and collectively in the poem? What effect does the definition of one word have on our understanding of another word in the same line, stanza, or within the same poem? What is the function of the word in poetry (as opposed to the line, or meter, rhythm, etc.)? What assumptions does the poet make about our use and understanding of language when we read poetry? What constitutes poetic language as something distinct from everyday language? Consider all or none of these questions; write an essay that encourages a deeper look at the word.

• Length: 5-page limit (1500 word limit)

• Include a clear thesis statement-your interpretive claim about the subject.

In the weekly conference, each justice states his or her view on the cases that they have just heard in oral argument and how he or she votes on each case. The conference also is the occasion at which the justices discuss and vote on future cases that they will hear; four positive votes are required for the Court to hear a case.
