Part II

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the Fisher (2009) article, “Replacing ‘Who is the Client?’ With a Different Ethical Question” and the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct: Including 2010 Amendments paying special attention to standard 3.11.
Informed consent is an important ethical component of research and practice. It is not, however, always sufficient or appropriate for consulting, program evaluation, job effectiveness assessment, or other psychological services delivered to or through organizations because it does not always address all the necessary elements of a given situation. These facts do not negate our responsibility as psychology professionals to inform clients and those who may be impacted by our services. In the discussion you will address these issues through the following case study.
You are an industrial organizational (I/O) psychologist and have been hired to evaluate a company’s “Work From Home” policy to see if it has increased company production. In addition to a review of the employee records, the evaluation needs to include interviews with supervisors and employees on the value and limits of the policy. Since informed consent as typically considered in clinical, counseling, and research settings will not be sufficient in this instance, you will need to inform all supervisors and employees about your services.
In your initial post, briefly analyze and define who the client is in this case study. Assess your professional role as the I/O psychologist and your responsibility to the client as defined. Apply the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct to this scenario, specifically addressing what information should be provided to all supervisors and employees. Explain how you would disseminate this information and ensure understanding amongst all stakeholders. Part III

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the Grenyer & Lewis (2012) “Prevalence, Prediction, and Prevention of Psychologist Misconduct” article and the APA Practice Central’s Professional Health and Well-being for Psychologists , Tips from Practitioners on Finding Work-Life Balance , and Tips for Self-Care online articles.
Select two complaints presented in the Grenyer & Lewis article (see Table 1) and explain the ramifications of these violations applying the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct to each situation. Assess the role of the APA in assisting psychology professionals in the identification of potential areas of misconduct. Describe and recommend a course of action to avoid these areas. Evaluate the contemporary role of psychology professionals and elaborate on the relationship between self-care and the issue of maintaining ethical principles and professional standards. This week, you will research and create an annotated bibliography of five peer-reviewed articles that were published within the last 10 years and relate to the article you selected in Week Two for your Article Review. The peer-reviewed articles you select should be researched in the Ashford University Library and represent a variety of viewpoints on the subject matter. They may support or refute the information presented in your chosen article for review. Each of the peer-reviewed articles must include a complete reference that is correctly formatted in APA style as outlined by the Ashford Writing Center and an annotation of five to six well-developed sentences in your own words that summarize the source and describe its applicability to your selected topic. Once on the website, look for the state’s rules and regulations governing professional psychology. These are often listed as links or tabs with titles such as “Laws and Regulations”, “Rules and Regulations”, “Laws, Policies, and Rules”, “Statutes and Rules”, “Statutes and Administrative Codes”, etc. Review the complete rules and regulations for your state and pay special attention to the sections concerning rules for working with minors. Then, conduct an Internet search for information on consent and confidentiality for mental health treatment for minors in your state of residence. In the discussion, you will address the following case study:

You are a counselor. Twelve-year-old Billy is using drugs without his parents’ knowledge and has come to see you for help. Billy wants outpatient treatment for his substance abuse and informs you that his parents do not know about his drug use. He refuses to permit you to share information with his parents. While a person under the age of 18 is often considered a minor and generally most states would require them to obtain consent from a parent or guardian prior to receiving mental health treatment, there are several exceptions to this general rule.

In your initial post, analyze your state’s rules and regulations governing psychology as a profession as well as your state information on consent and confidentiality with regard to minors. Apply these regulations to Billy’s case. Elaborate on how you would approach the case by providing information on your state’s consent and confidentiality laws and assessing any impact these may have on your options for Billy’s treatment. Apply any relevant ethical principles and professional standards of psychology as they relate to this complex situation. Evaluate any personal beliefs that may conflict with legal requirements you have as a counselor within your state. PART II Exploring the Influence of the APA Within the Psychology Profession

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the Schantz (2014) “A Young Scholar’s Guide to Building a Professional Network” article, review the Divisions listed on the APA website paying special attention to the divisions that may interest you, and review the O*Net Online website .
In your initial post, identify one division related to your career interest that you would consider joining and one specific job related to that division. Conduct a search on your chosen job using O*Net Online . Briefly elaborate on the information provided on the job you searched, and be sure to include educational requirements, duties, future outlook, and salaries related to the position. Use the Internet to search for and compile information about the leading employer prospects for this position in your geographical area. Compare and contrast the compiled information with that from O* Net. Write a 3-4-page essay addressing the essay prompt below. Answer the prompt in an
organized essay (introduction with thesis, supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion).
Make sure you create a strong central thesis that organizes your essay and make sure it is
convincingly supported by evidence-filled supporting paragraphs. Be as specific as you
can when referring to the film by providing specific evidence and analysis to support any
claims or observations you make.
Through an analysis of story and writing, write an essay examining the literary
value Federico Fellini’s 1963 film 8 ½.
How you organize your essay is up to you, but you should devote equal weight to the

Part I Self-Help or Self-Harm?

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the required Bemecker (2014), Kosovski and Smith (2011), Mullins (2014), and Roose, Fuentes, and Cheema (2012) articles.
Flip through the channels on a television set or walk into any bookstore in the United States, and you are likely to encounter various self-help reality shows or books offering insights into how you can help yourself with mental health issues.

For this discussion, pick one self-help television show or book to evaluate (Dr. Phil, Hoarders, Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Managing Your Moods, Learn How to Boost Your Self Esteem, etc.). Identify your selection and provide enough information on the topic of the show or book to create adequate context. Analyze the validity, reliability, benefits, and value of the popular resource based on your reading and study of the science of psychology across the course. Describe the presentation of the content within the book or television show in terms of the role of authority the author or host takes. (Is the presentation informational or authoritative?) Explain any theoretical foundations or shortcomings found in the material. Evaluate the ability of the book or show to apply the methods within the presented material to the target population. Describe any efforts on the part of the author(s) or host(s) to apply ethical principles and professional standards of psychology in the delivery of the content. Note any ethical issues not addressed by the chosen resource.

Part II

Psychology Versus Pop Psychology

There is often a wide discrepancy between content presented in the mainstream media and that which is presented in the scientific literature. In this discussion, you will choose one contemporary psychological issue that is prevalent today (depression, body image, bullying, media influences, self-esteem, etc.). Research your selected topic in a popular publication (Psychology Today, Newsweek, New York Times, etc.). Then, using the Ashford University Library, locate a peer-reviewed journal article on the same topic. In your initial post, briefly identify your topic and provide enough detail for an adequate understanding. Compare and contrast the information presented by detailing commonalities and differences that exist in the two sources. Assess the contributions of the peer-reviewed source to the topic and identify any missing element in the popular source. Evaluate how adequately the popular article addresses the major components of the selected contemporary topic in psychology for a general population.

Use specific U.S. Supreme Court cases to briefly trace the development of the right to counsel for indigent defendants. In this context explain the right to self-representation by criminal defendants. and the problems that arise when this right is claimed by some defendants with mental disabilities.

Part I End-of-Life Decisions

Prior to completing this discussion, please read the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (2010) and Fact Sheet on End-of-Life Care (2014), as well as the Block, S. D., et al. (2006), Kwak, J., & Haley, W. E. (2005), and Torbic (2011) articles required for this week. You will also be required to find two additional peer-reviewed sources to support developmental psychology concepts and theory and apply them to this topic within the provided end-of-life case scenarios.
You are working as the social worker at an area hospital dealing primarily with end-of-life decisions and palliative care. For this discussion, you will be reviewing the PSY605 End-of-Life Case Scenarios document and making recommendations based on the information provided in the scenarios.

All end-of-life choices and medical decisions have complex psychosocial components, ramifications, and consequences that have a significant impact on suffering and the quality of living and dying. Part II Evaluate Existing Programming for People Across the Lifespan

Prior to completing this discussion, please read Chapter 21 from the Lerner, Easterbrooks, Mistry, and Weiner (2013) e-book and the review the list of programs included in the Federal Program Inventory published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2013) required for this week.

For this discussion, you will take on the role of a developmental psychologist reviewing an existing program to assess the program’s efficacy for the developmental stage(s) of the target audiences identified. Using the Federal Program Inventory as a guide, search for a human services program at work either in your local area or online. Find a program of interest to you that serves the need(s) of a specific population of individuals. You may want to refer to the Program Proposal Tracks and Topics in Developmental Psychology document for ideas on the types of programs to look for in your search.

Introduction
Begin with an introduction that briefly describes your topics, chosen articles, and the principle of development from Baltes (1987) to be addressed. The introduction should end with a succinct thesis statement that presents the idea of how each unique topic within developmental psychology can be applied to your chosen principle of development.

Summary and Critical Evaluation
In this section, you will summarize each article by highlighting the purpose, research questions and hypotheses, methods, results, and conclusions drawn regarding the topic the article represents. Then, evaluate the merits of the article, including the strengths, weakness and limitations, and future directions of the research. Additionally, evaluate whether you had any issues with accuracy or clarity in reading the article, and address any remaining questions you have. Finally, evaluate any ethical considerations that may or may not have been addressed by the authors of the articles.

Synthesis of Principles Defining the Lifespan Development Approach
In this section, you will integrate one of the principles of development which state that development is lifelong, multidimensional, multidirectional, gains and losses, contextual and historical, and/or multidisciplinary (Baltes, 1987). To do so, you will first describe your chosen principle and explain how it can be applied to each of your five topics. Construct clear arguments regarding how your chosen principle drives, and is influenced by key elements presented in the articles.

Conclusion
Synthesize the findings described in your five articles into a succinct conclusion in which you reaffirm your thesis statement and describe how the principle of development discussed in your review influences our understanding of human development across all five chosen topics. Address any remaining questions and overarching implications of the studies with regard to future directions in developmental psychology.
