You essay is due in class on October 6th. You must cite at least one passage from a tragedy AND one passage from a Pre-Socratic philosopher to get full credit!
Essays should be 3-4 pages long, typed in 12 pt. font, and double spaced. Late papers will be penalized 5% per day.
Please answer ONE of the following questions:
What does Sophocles’ tragedy Oedipus the King teach us about knowledge and the role that it plays in human life? In other words, what does Oedipus’ story tell us about the relationship between the limits of knowledge and the freedom we find in wisdom?
What does Euripides’ tragedy The Bacchae teach us about intoxication and the role that it plays in the cultivation of human knowledge? In other words, what does the Pentheus/Agave’s story tell us about the relationship between self-knowledge and the violation of limits?
