Democracy in Athens and how it affected, and was affected by, the Persian Wars. He makes some bold claims about the distinctiveness of the Athenian experiment and the important role it played in the Greek victory over the Persians. 9/2: Hanson Article Outline (20 points)

V. D. Hanson’s article on the battle of Salamis (in the Readings folder) unpacks the complex significance of this potential turning point in Athenian history. As you read this article, observe its structure. Identify Hanson’s main arguments and the points he makes to support them.

In your journal below, write an outline of this article. Use complete sentences. I don’t care about your exact outline format, as long as it’s easy to understand and has a hierarchical arrangement (i.e. I. A. 1. a., with main points and subpoints).

Then, in a paragraph or two, consider Hanson’s final point: democracy in Athens and how it affected, and was affected by, the Persian Wars. He makes some bold claims about the distinctiveness of the Athenian experiment and the important role it played in the Greek victory over the Persians. Summarize his arguments, then use logical analysis and the information from your other readings to evaluate them. Do they seem justified, or does he overstate his case?

List 5 criteria that YOU feel influence one’s standard of living, with a brief (one or two sentences) explanation as to why.

To me, one of the more important aspects of studying macroeconomics has to do with how it influences standards of living throughout the world. What I would like you to do for this assignment is to list 5 criteria that YOU feel influence one’s standard of living, with a brief (one or two sentences) explanation as to why. There are no right or wrong answers for this assignment, and I plan on taking your answers and presenting them collectively to the class (without identifying who wrote them).

1) Is it fair to say, the conceptual framework is a tool with several different variations? One use is the conceptual framework is used to organize distinctions within the study. A narrative is developed by the researcher explaining how the researcher views the study.
2) Do you worldviews have anything to do with the framework? Do you think that likeminded researchers with the same worldview use the same framework?
3) Do these likeminded researchers believe that events happen because of their worldview or the current knowledge of the field of study?
4) Do you believe that the author’s worldview has anything to do with the framework? Do you think that two likeminded researchers would use the same framework?
5) Do these likeminded researchers believe that events happen because of the same reason that is guided by their worldview?
6) I agree with your reasoning and the steps you take. Rendering out the themes is something that I did not think of but makes perfect sense. But, linking the relationship between the study and the theory is important because without that link what is the point of having the theory?
