Compare the information and related resources provided with respect to the 9/11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and Hurricane Sandy. These disaster events span from 2001 through 2012, thereby providing a good time frame for analysis of impact on our emergency management systems, changes in governmental policy, etc. In particular, since this course deals with the management of critical incident operations, please focus on the governmental response to these events, addressing the following areas for each disaster event:
 The technology and plans in place prior to each event
 How the technology and plans were utilized before, during, and after the event
 The effectiveness of the National Response Framework, the National Incident Management, and the Incident Command System (please note that there have been name changes, additions, etc., during the time frame under consideration)
 Who were the decision-makers: how did they communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders?
 The quality of decisions made by all levels of government and the private sector in light of various systems and data available
 The consequences of those decisions, both short and long-term, to both government and the private sector
 Lessons learned, including what worked and didn’t work for each disaster event, why, and recommendations to avoid the same problems from occurring in the future
The Research Paper component of this course will consist of a minimum 2500 word paper prepared. The Research Paper will consist of a disaster case analysis and will provide students with an opportunity to critically analyze critical incident management operations based on an actual disaster event. Students will be expected to discuss the various planning, response, recovery, and mitigation aspects related to the case study,
including their impact on the community and organizations involved in the event.
Your paper should include a minimum of 7 citations from any of the chapters from the assigned text or any of the resources listed in the course Modules, as well as a minimum of 3 citations from other outside sources.

Innovation may be defined as exploiting new ideas leading to the creation of a new product, process or service. One survey identified that almost 90 percent of businesses believe that innovation is a priority for them. The importance of innovation is increasing, and increasing significantly. It has been acknowledged that innovation leads to wealth creation. Even though efficiency is essential for business success, in the long run, it cannot sustain business growth thus innovation is important for organization’s sustainability. (paggu.com, 2009).

There are two types of internal innovation: 1) Incremental Innovation is built on existing knowledge bases and provide small improvements in the current product lines. I see Lego as a company that is based on incremental innovation where the company keeps adding different designs to the basic building blocks, and 2) radical innovation provides significant technological breakthroughs and create new knowledge. I would say that Google is a company built on radical innovation. Google has been producing all kinds of radical innovations such as Google glasses to driverless cars to just announced lately, better battery.

It is not just the invention of a new idea that is important, but it is actually “bringing it to market”, putting into practice and exploiting it in a manner that leads to new products, services or systems that add value or improve quality – this is where entrepreneurship comes into play. A person with entrepreneurial-mindset values uncertainty in the marketplace and seeks to continuously identify opportunities with the potential to lead important innovations (Hitts, 2012. P.395).

So which one is more important innovation or entrepreneurship? BloombergBusinness.com debate room has a topic on this – Innovative ideas can make a splash, but entrepreneurs are more likey to create value, change the world and make profits. Pro or Con? (BloombergBusiness.com, 2012).
