Use the Internet to locate at least two (2) advertisements that exhibit any of the following fallacies: equivocation, false authority, ad hominem, appeal to ignorance, or bandwagon. Post the videos in the discussion. Next, identify the fallacy used in the selected advertisements, discuss the primary reasons why you believe that the advertisers have used the fallacy in question, and examine whether or not their use of this type of fallacy is effective.
From part 1 of this discussion, consider alternate strategies that the advertisers could have used in order to develop a more sound and persuasive argument. Explain the main reasons why you believe consumers ignore these errors in reasoning.

INSTRUCTIONS: Please construct an original post that answers the following questions (in paragraph form):
• What defines Gothic literature? What characteristics are common to it? When was it “born”? What names are recognizable as writers in the Gothic genre?
• What examples of literature exist today that share characteristics or attributes with the Gothic literature we read about in the three assigned articles?

Instructions:

Review the articles on pages 153-180 in Practial Argument about whether or not colleges have gone too far in accommodating students with disabilities. We will revisit this topic in Unit 3. As you read, pay close attention to argument strategy. Choose three of the articles, and answer the following questions:

What is the thesis of the article? Is it explicit or implicit?
Does the author use primarily inductive or deductive reasoning?
Can you recognize any logical fallacies?

How has the stock market shaped economy. What changed since the stock market. How does a stock market crash effect economy.

INTRODUCTION – 5 sentences stating your hypothesis, why you believe it, and why it matters.
BODY- 5 paragraphs explaining the evidence for your hypothesis. Each paragraph should present a new piece of evidence – statistics, laws or supreme court decisions, eyewitness testimony, examples from history, etc. Tie each paragraph directly back to your hypothesis.
CONCLUSIONS – Re-state your hypothesis and tell me again why it matters. Explain how it relates to the rest of the government/nation/world. Suggest further research in the area.

Please Answer all three Questions separately, one page and half for each question. Question 1. During World War ll, Japanese-Americans were placed in interment camps in this country, and the United States had to come up with a refugee policy to respond to people fleeing Europe. First, please discuss Japanese Internment: what were the goals and fears; did it make sense for the national defense t the time, or was it a continuation of prejudice against Asians seen in the Chinese Exclusion Act, and the immigration laws of 1924 ? Then (using the Handouts about Otto Frank and Syria ) Please write about U.S. practices toward refugees during W.W.II and today. What re the fears? Should we have accepted more refugees? Is this country responsible for the Death of Anne Frank?

Question 2. Mexican Immigrants often face, and continue to face, hardship and antagonism in this country. their story is similar in many ways, to the stories of other immigrant groups we’ve talked about this semester. Please discuss the Mexican immigrant story, including: ” Pushes and Pulls”; the idea that they were treated as “commodities”; instances and ways in which they faced racism. Then, make comparisons between the Mexican experience and that of other immigrant groups- Chinese and Jewish Immigrants, for example.

Question 3. Use the four handouts to write an Essay about immigration policy in the United States today. What would the comprehensive immigration bill (passed by the Senate over a year ago say, but now stuck and not being addressed by the House of Representatives) mean for the 11 million illegal immigrants in this country, for “highly-skilled” immigrants wanting to come here legally, and for the family members of people already here wanting to come legally? Explain DACA, and Obama’s Executive Action. Please give your opinions and thoughts on this very complex issue. If you were an immigrant policy adviser to the government, what would you advice?

Please answer each question with many details, try to make connections and give your own take on things. Use MLA format, also use details and examples from the book by Ronald Takaki, called a Different Mirror. And also the four handouts that are uploaded to answer the last question. Please write a page and a half for each question and also have a works cited sheet.

Your task is to identify a town within the UK which you feel could benefit from re-imaging. This must preferably
be a town of less than 500,000 residents as you will find this assessment more difficult to do with a large city.
Evidence can be found by reading national newspapers which are available in the digital library in the LRC, or
alternatively by using other media non academic sources. You may decide to use the internet initially to find
towns that you think may have a poor reputation, the UK Governments statistics website is a good source of
information. You could enhance/confirm this research my carrying out a mini survey to find out people’s
perceptions of your chosen town or perhaps do a SWOT analysis.
After deciding upon a suitable town to reimage you will then consider an event strategy that could be used to
achieve a more positive image of the selected town.

Required portfolio content
 Demonstrate your rationale for choosing your town, giving evidence of any current poor image (this can
be reports, survey or newspaper articles and can be attached as an appendix if too large). You may wish
to carry out a SWOT analysis of the town or a survey to evidence this too.
 Analyse and discuss the urban regeneration issues relating to your chosen town, including maps of the
town if needed for support or discussion.
 Discuss your chosen event regeneration strategy and the desired new or altered image you would hope to
achieve by your event(s). You should decide upon at least one good objective that you would wish to
achieve to improve the town’s image.
 Branding your city or town is a good way to sell it globally therefore your strategy should also incorporate
a proposal on how you wish your chosen town to be marketed, many cities or towns use slogans or visual
logos, to this end and you may wish to do the same. i.e. what do you want your town to be known for, (it
may link to the town’s heritage).
 Identify the stakeholders that contribute to urban development programmes and evaluate their interests
in any renewable programme
 There are always limitations to what can be achieved and recognition of these need to be identified and
critically analysed as to whether they can be overcome. (Refer to week 6 PowerPoint slides)
