SUBS 606 Research Paper Guide

This document is intended to help guide you to successful completion of the research paper for this course.  You will complete a 15-20 page (not including title page, abstract page, and references) research paper on a topic related to biological aspects of addiction.  Higher grades will be awarded to papers that demonstrate personal mastery of course content and congruence with the assignment description in this guide.  Conformity to APA style is required for this manuscript.  Although you have some degree of choice of topic, the organization of the paper needs to follow the Research Paper Guide.

Once you have developed a proper introduction for your paper, there will need to be 3 primary sections for you to address.

1. Description of Substance/Behavior: In this section, describe the biological aspects of the addictive substance or behavior.  Your discussion should explain the addictive properties and include its primary effects on the brain and other organ systems in the body.

2. Clinical Issues: Discuss clinical considerations of the addictive substance or behavior.  Include the implications the biological aspects of substance/behavior have for the counseling process.  Describe medical treatments (existing or developing) based on biological aspects of substance/behavior and future directions of treatment.  Include a brief discussion of ethical issues the biological aspects of the substance/behavior have for counseling.

3. Christian Worldview Implications: The third main section of your paper should discuss biological aspects of the addictive substance/behavior from a biblically informed Christian worldview.  Include areas of freedom and caution for Christian counselors based on the biological aspects of the addictive substance/behavior.

As with your introduction at the beginning of your paper, you want to have a brief summary or conclusion.

Remember, this is a guide and not an outline for your paper.  You will do well to effectively use proper APA headings and subheadings to help organize and present your paper.  The APA publication manual (6^th ed.) has helped make the use of headings and subheading much easier than in previous editions.  The main sections above would make very suitable headings for your paper.  You must submit your research paper must be submitted by Oct. 2, 2015 before 11:59 a.m.  Your originality score must be 15% or less, excluding references.

Prepare a 10- to 15-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation on special issues in communication. Discuss the following in your presentation as they relate to communication:

Diversity
Ethics
Technology
Mass communication

Include how these issues relate to each other. For instance: How do gender differences affect communication? How does technology affect communication between different cultures? Does diversity affect ethical decisions? How does technology affect ethical decision making?

Identify the research approach typically used for each issue by filling out the University of Phoenix Material: Communication Research Methods Matrix.

Include a summary of the matrix in your presentation.

Prepare a 5-6 page report (excluding the cover page, the reference page, and any tables and graphs), which describes the uses of business forecasting. You need to include at least one real world example and apply at least two different methods of forecasting presented in Chapter 5. Please present both your raw data and your two numerical forecasting results from your two chosen forecasting methods. APA format and appropriate use of section headings are required. (LO 1, 2, 3, 5)

Hint: You need to collect at least one data series for your analysis in this assignment. Please include the name and the exact formula or Excel/QM function/output of each forecast method you applied to your analysis. For example, if you find GDP data from year 2000 to 2011, then you need to forecast the GDP in the next period, i.e. 2012. You need to select two different forecast methods. For each method, you need to provide the name of the method and your numerical forecast together with the formula or program output you used to get that number. (A verbal description by itself will not receive any credits. Please copy and paste in or attach your Excel Worksheet, which is a must to receive credits for statistical analysis.) Finally, please present your raw data either in a table or a graph. A graph is preferred as you can also illustrate how well your forecast may fit into the actual series. You do need to analyze your own data and cannot simply cite the statistical result published else where.

In Chapter 12 of the textbook, we explore the form and content requirements of financial statements of not-for-profit entities, as described by Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Statement No. 117.
Identify and research one (1) not-for-profit organization and provide the Web link to the most recent financial report of the organization.
Provide at least two (2) examples of the statements either following or not following the guidance provided by FASB 117. Comment and compare with examples provided by your classmates.
