Option #1: Personal Ethics Statement: Statement and Story

Demonstrate your ability to apply ethics to your future career in a health care setting by creating a statement and story of your professional ethics and the story behind your ethical perspective.

This statement and associated story should clearly identify your “ethics bottom line” and be suitable for framing or use as a poster. Creativity is encouraged, so be free to express yourself visually as well as in writing. Be sure that your statements are complete sentences and are free from grammatical and spelling errors.

Support your ethics statement with a one-page support document that explains its origins and presents your story. This document can be single-spaced but must not exceed one page. Your document should elucidate why you chose the items that were included in your statement.

“Detection and Prevention

Examine two advantages and two disadvantages of both the Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevent Systems (IPS). Explain which you would select if your organization could only have one or the other. Provide rationale for your response.

Write a 500-600 word paper, where you discuss what you think makes a “good” police officer.

In your paper also include a discussion on:

Characteristics of a “good” officer.
Give an example of an officer that you have seen with these characteristics. This may be in person or on television.
Support your argument with outside references.

Application: A Stimulus for Health Information Technology in Health Care Organizations

The HITECH provision of ARRA will facilitate the use of new health information technology in a range of health care organizations, from hospitals to physicians’ practices. To encourage a timely transition, HITECH includes incentives for providers and organizations based on how quickly and how well they incorporate certain kinds of technology in their practices.

Prepare for this Application Assignment as follows:

In light of this week’s Learning Resources, what do you think are major challenges facing health care organizations as they seek to interpret and implement ARRA/HITECH?
Select a particular health care setting, such as a physician’s practice, academic hospital, or outpatient clinic, and consider the management implications of ARRA/HITECH in your selected setting. Do further research in the Walden Library and elsewhere online to understand the issues facing this type of organization as they expand their use of health information technology. (You will be examining the technological issues in some detail later in the course; for this Application Assignment, focus on the breadth of management challenges that ARRA/HITECH raises.)
What solutions have been found? How might you, as a manager in this particular setting, contribute to the process? What tools and knowledge would you need to be effective?

Then write a 1- to 2-page paper that addresses the following:

Summarize the purpose of ARRA/HITECH and the key benefits it offers your selected health care setting.
What kinds of management challenges does ARRA/HITECH pose to this kind of organization? How are these being addressed?
What additional solutions might you propose, and why?

Based on your knowledge from a past or present job, explain the difference between a group and a team. Would you say you were a part of a group or a team while working in that job?

Now, identify a team that you were a part of and describe the advantages that you derived from being a member of the team. Include responses to the following:

Would you characterize your role as effective? How could you have been a better team member?
What role(s) did you or the leader play in making the team effective? How could the leader have made the team more effective?
