Student Presentations on Agency (15% of course grade, addresses – GE-SL Outcome 3-Community & Social Justice and CHHS MLO Professional Communication) Due before class on first day of scheduled presentationsPurpose: The primary purpose of this assignment is to increase student familiarity with own agency placement, program and services as well as the community in which the placement is being completed. Additional goals are to raise awareness of community disparities, to help inform peers about the range of health and human services in the region and to strengthen public speaking/professional communication skills. : Each student will provide a 10-minute oral presentation to the class about their agency and community served this semester. Dress professionally, PowerPoint or Prezi required (no Camtasia allowed); and be sure to cite the source of your information in the slides. Peer reviews and brief Q&A after each presentation. Instructions: Students must utilize and cite a minimum of three valid sources for the presentation:

The presentation will address the information about the agency identified below:
1. Discuss the agencys mission, programs, and services
3. Describe the health or social issue addressed through the agencys mission. (Consider how you can convince other people of the problem’s importance- that is where the section on collecting information about the problem comes in. One way to convince others about a problem is to tell stories or provide information about how the problem affects the quality of people’s lives. People need to have an understanding of the human cost of an issue. For example, telling the story of how Shelly’s pregnancy at age 14 changed her life can certainly help increase awareness of the problem of teen pregnancy, and may help you garner support for your organization. But descriptions alone don’t tell how extensive the problem is. If you can tell people just how many “Shellys” exist in your community compared to other communities, then that can be very helpful, for a variety of reasons. A quantitative approach helps you be very specific and accurate about the level of the problem both in your community, and in other communities as well. It helps you compare the problem across geographic regions and across periods of time).
4. Describe collaborative partners of the agency and describe how youve interacted with one partner.
5. Describe the population(s) served by the agency (agency data required). Comment on some of the social justice issues, disparities, inequities faced by the agency population.
6. Describe your role as an intern at the agency (projects and activities). Comment on the professional skills and knowledge developing at your agency.
7. Include an organizational chart and some analysis (demographic, leadership, etc) of the chart and your place in the organizational chart.
8. Conclude the presentation by identifying how the placement experience has impacted your future career goals in health and human services
