A campaign analysis project 1. Senator Dianne Feinstein campaign 2. Students will follow their chosen campaigns media presence across various media platforms. More specifically, students will make observations from: a. Newspaper articles from the Los Angeles Times and a newspaper of the students choice (At least three articles). b. A campaign ad which is intended to be broadcast on television (must be able to link to). c. The campaigns social media presence, specifically Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. 3. Students will evaluate the campaigns media presence in light of the course readings: Theories of Media Effects, Changes in Politics and the Mass Media, and Campaigns in the 21st Century. Additional evaluation based upon the Organization of the Media and The development of Journalism in the United States is recommended. 4. Recommended format of the paper: a. 12-15 double-spaced, one-inch margin, 12 point font paper. No cover page expected, but a reference page is [this doesnt count as one of your pages]. b. You must include screenshots of Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter pages of your campaign to help illustrate points in your analysis. Each screenshot counts as a page; you may have no more than 4 pages of screenshots. c. Your paper should include the following information: i. Background information about the candidate or campaign (who/what they are, what they are campaigning for/the campaign is about, whether the candidate or campaign is a front runner during the Fall of 2018) ii. Analysis of the candidates/campaigns actual media presence/presentation iii. Interpretation of media presence/presentation based upon course readings and lectures. d. Support for your interpretation. Make sure you cite your sources correctly. e. Papers will be evaluated based upon: substance [do you fulfill the project requirements?], support [support your argument? Do you have social media screenshots that support your argument?], and style [Do you have a thesis statement, proper paragraphs that include topic sentences, and a conclusion?]
