The literature review is a written approach to an in-depth examination of research on a particular clinical topic. This review demonstrates knowledge of a topic and creates a foundation and justification for further research. To demonstrate knowledge of the topic through a review of the literature, synthesis is needed. Synthesis involves combining independent elements to form a cohesive whole. Students will synthesize the literature by integrating sources from the literature review matrix (Part 2) which may involve: Identifying patterns Discussion of strengths and weaknesses of studies Comparing and contrasting methods, approaches, and study findings Evaluating and interpreting what is known and what is missing The literature review is an 8-10 page, APA formatted document (not including cover page and references). Students should write an introduction explaining the purpose behind the review, the rationale of selecting the clinical topic and its significance and implication in advanced practice nursing. Student will also link their clinical area of interest or gap in the literature to an appropriate nursing theory. Please see all documents.
