The purpose of this paper is to provide each candidate with the opportunity to review research journal articles on social equity, biliteracy development among monolingual or dual language, multicultural learners and maximizing student achievement at schools. Research journals are available on-line at the NU Library. You might want to explore journals and articles using key words such as: Social equity Biliteracy development Identity and cultural development From our text book select a chapter from Part II, III or IV to read. Examine the reference list and research one of the original scholarly sources used in the chapter (research articles only, from peer reviewed journals). Use the library to find another scholarly article on the same topic. Note: If you are not able to locate a peer reviewed research article from an academic journal in the reference list of the Chapter you have selected, you may select both of your articles from the library. Please note that large government studies such as those available on multi-page websites are not peer reviewed research articles from academic journals. Please contact your instructor if you are unsure even after attending the librarian presentation that will be scheduled for our class. The chapter and the two peer reviewed research articles from scholarly journals will be thoroughly covered in a 5-7 page typed and double spaced APA-style paper (Papers over 10 pages or single spaced will be returned to the student and a grade will not be assigned until the paper is modified accordingly.). The annotated bibliography paper is due by midnight on Saturday of the third week and each student may earn a maximum of 20 points. The paper should include the following sections: 1. Introduction; chapter summary, introduce the two articles you reviewed and their importance to the study and understanding of educational equity and diversity in theory and practice. 2. Citation: Using APA format, begin the discussion of the article with the citation. Articles must come from professional research journals with clearly specified methods and results sections. 3. Summary: When summarizing the journal articles, you will want to include sections labeled purpose, methods, results, significance of the results, and research bias. Summaries must be in the students own words. No material should be lifted directly from the article and the article abstracts should not be copied into the paper. 4. Reflection: (about 1-2 pages).
