Intersectional Feminist Activism Project: The last unit of this course focuses on feminist activism; for your final project, you will research a feminist group or movement that you consider to be intersectional. How you present this information can be creatively up to you: PowerPoint, a newsletter, brochure, making a webpage, etc., as long as it meets the criteria. Extensive online research will be required. Its best to trust websites that end in .org, .gov, or .edu or come from a well-known media journal (e.g., the Washington Post). REMEMBER: WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A SCHOLARLY SOURCE. Make sure to include a reference section, and cite your information according to standard bibliographic guidelines. Your project should cover the following information:A brief history of the place where the movement is taking happening, as it relates to your topic (e.g., colonization and independence, total population, global location, rates of poverty, history of social movements, etc.)
An overview of the issue addressed by the group or movement, and how it impacts women and/or marginalized communities (e.g., HIV and AIDS disproportionately affect women in India because they are unable to negotiate safe sex practices and lack appropriate education for reproductive safety)
of a particular event that led to local social organizing and activism for change (e.g., ongoing and exhaustive civil war in Liberia caused massive psychological trauma to women, leading a womens group to organize and protest the war and government leadership)
An explanation of the intersectional approach of the group or movement (including any potential oversights or weaknesses).
Changes that were made as a result of this activism, or reasons why it has not been successful (e.g., updating, changing, or passing new laws, increase in funding, creation of a local nonprofit organization, increased global awareness, etc.)
