5.3.3 Research Proposal detailed description of assessment (2,500 words) You are required to submit the proposal for your research investigation leading to the final dissertation project. You will need to need to identify and develop your own topic based on your personal and professional interest, your knowledge and skills and its feasibility. This topic has to be interesting and relevant to your degree (i.e. the field of international business). For students who have developed and submitted their own topic of research as part of the topic review assignment, it will be expected that they show considerable progress on their research since their topic review submission be it in terms of the academic literature mobilised, the development of their research question, or in terms of the overall research direction (methodology, data, expected findings). 5.3.2.1 Content (1) Introduction (400 words) Start your work from a provisional title explaining your research direction and an introduction to the area/problem you intend to research, including aspects of it that are relevant to the following discussion. Try and define a research question(s). (2) Key literature and theoretical background of the topic of investigation (1,500 words) What is already known on your topic? What theories and concepts are relevant to the topic? Make sure you give adequate consideration to the classics in your topic area, the landmarks, and the most recent developments. What policy or business implications have been derived out of this? What gaps in knowledge remain to be addressed? What is your proposed research question? Present the key literature in critical manner, either chronologically (tracing the development of the field over time) or comparing similarities and differences between authors and schools of thought. (3) Direction of research and expected findings (400 words) What methodology would you like to implement in order to respond to your research question(s)? Will you have sufficient and good quality data to make relevant conclusions? What is it that you are wishing to find as a result of your research? Evaluate strong and potentially weak points within the investigation? How will you organise yourself in order to complete your dissertation? (4) Structure of final report (150 words) Identify the key chapters in your report. (5) Reflective report (50 words) A brief reflection of students experience on completing this assignment including the advantages and limitations of this assignment/experience; key skills acquired and potential challenges.
