A Rose for Emily to analyze. Using close reading techniques, develop an argumentative thesis for your analysis. Write a three-four-page paper that supports your thesis. You are required to reference and use material from one secondary source in this essay. The essay should be formatted in MLA style, include a Works Cited page and an annotated bibliography. Specific instructions for the annotated bibliography portion follow. At the end of the essay, provide a Writing Process Summation by responding to the following questions. Why did you choose this story? How did you arrive at your understanding and assertion about the poem? What were the points you made in this essay? How did you revise this? What do you want your reader to see from your essay? You are required to reference and discuss one secondary source in this essay. An annotated bibliography of this secondary source must be included in the essay along with a Works Cited page. The essay should be formatted in MLA style and be 3-4 pages in length, not including the annotated bibliography.
The letters can describe their feelings, some others secondary characters, or some of their daily situations experiences. Also you can include letters from other characters such as the mother of the girlfriend (who does not support the relationship) or things like that. One example of how this epistolary easy should look like is “Love and Friendship” by Jane Austen.
Purpose: All semester, we have been working on communication and analysis. The main purpose of this final essay is to understand that where you get information from, matters. All sources are not created equally. Being able to locate, critically examine, and synthesizing several disparate sources in order to construct an argument is one of the primary hallmarks of independent thinking. (And, the development of confident, independent thinking is the main purpose of college education). Now, it is your job to find the very best sources you can in order to support an argument.
Audience: For this essay, you should assume that you are writing for people who have some knowledge of your subject matter. Therefore, it is not necessary to cite things that are common knowledge to you within your field of study.
Note: This is not a middle school research project. Your main task is to show that you have done significant research and that you are able to utilize your sources in relation to one another. This assignment is about the quality of your research sourcesit is not about the history of an invention. You are simply using an invention as a focal point for research. The paper is also not simply a description of sources. You still have to have an argument in your paper. Your argument will not be about rhetorical appealsthis time you have to come up with an original thesis statement.
Requirements:
1. Read the two articles posted in Blackboard about Inventions. You can find them in the Essay
#3 Folder under Assignment s.
2. Choose one invention/ innovation to focus on. You may choose something listed in one of the
articles posted in Blackboard if you would like to, but you certainly dont have to.
3. Research sources: You must utilize and discuss your sources extensively throughout the entire
essay. This means you need to do more than simply drop in a quote or two.
4. Thesis statement- you have to have one. Some ideas for the direction of your thesis might
include arguments about: the significance of your invention in relation to other similar products; the transformation of your invention over time; the long-term implications of the invention; how your invention changed society at the time it was created.
Examples of more recent inventions: Hoverboard, Fitbit, Drone, Touchscreen, Roomba, Voice- Recognition Technology, 3D Printer, Owlet Baby sock monitor, the pacemaker, Smart-phone-powered virtual reality headsets like Google Daydream, Bluetooth headphones.
2. How do states and counties with a coroner system handle suspicious deaths requiring an autopsy? Who typically conducts the autopsy?3. What are the weaknesses in the coroner system? Should states with coroner systems be required to convert to a medical examiner/forensic pathologist system? What is a major obstacle to conversion?
The assignment requires discussion of how criminalistics or forensic science were used to solve the crime and prosecute the accused. In profiling this criminal investigations the major focus of the research and paper must be on the forensic science or sciences used during the investigation and prosecution to convict or acquit the defendant(s). Briefly summarize the investigation or prosecution as background information, however the expectation is a detailed discussion of one or more forensic sciences.The paper must be seven (7) to ten (10) pages in length and written using APA style and formatting. The paper will include a cover page and reference pages, however these pages will not count toward the total page requirement. An abstract is not required. The research paper must include the review of two (2) scholarly, peer reviewed journal articles related to the topic of the research. Each literature review should be no more than one (1) page in length and counts toward the total page requirement.
