She has abandonment issues and codependency issues. She also experienced the sudden death of her fiance, Ian, which triggered her trauma. Her mother Lillian had narcissistic traits and is vain and focused on outside appearances, which Toby begins to emulate in her own life. She has an older sister, Eileen who rebelled against Lillian and also bullied Toby who was a very shy child. She grew up in a hostile household with her mother and father fighting very often. She puts on a facade of confidence which masks her insecurities and sense of inferiority. She is dependent on men.
