The two stories we are examining deal with a breaking of trust in marriage. The reasons for the loss of trust are completely different; however, trust is a foundation of every successful relationship, and when it’s lost, the relationship will suffer and may even founder. What are the two writers saying in these stories about the particular characters, their conflicts, and the consequences of a loss of trust? Remember that the characters, the conflicts, the plot itself, are all fictions — imagined.
