Describe the parts you found most interesting and why? What did you learn that you did not know before?

GO to the SWITCH Energy Project website below (see next item down in Contents); 2) CHOOSE 3 (three) of the five available videos to watch in the category ENERGY ISSUES (top of the page) and take notes; 3) Then, CHOOSE 3 (three) more videos to watch from the category ENERGY RESOURCES (lower down on the page) and take notes; 4) EXPLAIN why you chose those videos, and summarize the most important points of each (do not quote narrators!). Feel free to disagree with anything, just state why. 5) REVISE your report carefully, taking care to use logical organization and clear writing. It will be graded according to the same rubric as the previous paper.SWITCH is an educational project associated with a documentary film on the future of energy. It is produced in collaboration with geologists and energy experts and has received positive reviews from environmental as well as energy groups. You do NOT need to watch the documentary film itself, but instead six short videoclips you choose, then write a 5 pp. paper based only on them. Do NOT quote directly from the narrator (paraphrase instead) or use outside references.

Internet and democracy PTA meeting

Ms. Lee, one of your favorite former high school teachers, has gotten into some trouble. Heres what happened. After your recent email exchange, she has remained deeply troubled by social medias impact on public discourse. This filter bubble threat has pushed her to take a stand. Last week she disconnected all the classroom computers and explained to her students that she unplugged the room for the sake of democracy. She then encouraged the class to join her after school the following week for an organized protest at the local school districts offices. The school district happens to be in advanced talks with companies, Apple and Adobe, about receiving a multi-million dollar grant through a White House ConnectED intiative. This money will be used to improve the districts technological infrastructure, which includes updates to broadband access, teacher technology training, and personal laptops for all students. Dont be tempted by all the money theyre dangling in front of you, Ms. Lee warned her students.Ms. Lees actions have been met with outrage from parents who consider technology education an important part of preparing students for the future. These parents believe that Ms. Lee is being reckless and incompetent, and they are considering lodging a formal complaint with the principal. As a former star student of the school, you have been invited by the local Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to share your thoughts on Ms. Lees actions, and to hopefully shed some light on your former teachers motivations. These parents are incredibly upset and by the end of this speech, you hope they wont make any rash decisions (like calling for Ms. Lee to get fired). Make your speech about 500 words.

Is the exposition clarifying and helpful, or confusing or superficial? Does the author demonstrate awareness of the assumed audiences need for explanation?

I. Structure and Content of Your Paper I. Thesis. A statement of your position, with an overview of your arguments. II. Exposition. What your issue is, and why it is important. Some historical context here would be very good. III. Arguments in support of thesis. Explain fully, in detail, also referring to course materials as appropriate. IV. Counterarguments. V. Response to counterarguments. VI. Conclusion. It is highly recommended that students check with me first before determining their thesis. II. Mechanics The paper MUST be formatted in Microsoft Office (.doc or .docx). Citation and formatting style should be in strict accord with the guidelines provided at Purdue Owl MLA. The paper should not be fewer than 1250 words, not including quotes, cover page, headings, name, footnotes or endnotes. Font style is up to the student. There should be proper citations for any external sources you use. You are required to have at least 3 external sources. These may include any of the textbooks for the course, but one source must be external to the course. B. Criteria for Grading Generally, is the paper well-written, i.e., is it easy to follow and understand even if a person outside the course read it? Does it evidence logical development, or does it contain elements that dont make sense or distract from the overall point? Are the arguments presented plausible, well-thought through, compelling, and non-question-begging, or are they implausible, hastily put together, superficial, or incoherent? o To beg the question is to start from a premise that is likely rejected by ones opponents, or is one many people doubt or reject. If you think your premise may beg the question, show that you are aware of this, and address it as best you can. Are the counterargument(s) strong and compelling, or are they weak or a straw man? Does the author treat opponents of his view with respect, or is the author derogatory or contemptuous toward his opponents? Does the author express the counterarguments as well or better than his opponents would? Is the response to the counterargument successful? Is it convincing, to-the-point, plausible, creative, or does it seem to miss the point, leave the major objection unaddressed, or only offer a weak or under-developed rebuttal? Does the conclusion helpfully summarize the debate? Does it offer something for the reader to chew on? Does it indicate awareness on the authors part that some significant issues havent been addressed? Is the paper free of grammatical and stylistic errors, including a well-formatted bibliography?

What is important is that you can justify a new approach or extension that is, provide reasons as to why it should be effective.

Grading is based on how well-written the materials are; but also on the logic of why you say the campaign should be successful with a certain group of receivers. Based on previous campaigns and what you know about theories or processes (i.e., humor, fear, etc.), propose an extension of a current campaign using certain channels, target groups, appeals, etc. or propose a new campaign. Some campaigns are successful already but can be adapted to new audiences or new channels. Throughout the semester we will routinely talk about how the messages we see improve on what was used immediately prior to a new campaign.Possible outline: I. What is the old campaign, why is a new one needed? II. Proposal for a new campaign or new idea III. What do you know about the target group (your receivers)? IV. Based on theory, why would this new idea be effective? V. For this new campaign: a) What is/are the message appeal (logic, emotional)? b) Who are the speakers or sources (celebrities, average people, experts, etc.), and, c) Which channels are used (TV, build board, radio, internet, and direct mail?)

Due to increasing structural complexity management faces the challenge to control and lead different segments of their company.

The complexity can result from different product ranges or sometimes as well business models which are bundled in one company. Very often management sees the need for diversification because of possible growth strategy or risk distribution. In business context risk distribution can be realized if a company enters into different markets. This diversification can come from different possible M&A activities. To succeed management needs to control and steer operations. To control different operational processes from e.g. purchase, production to sales management need transparency. Transparency is the key to a successful leadership because management can identify certain fields of optimization. Based on this knowledge management can continuously develop the organization. The subject of the research is the identification of a standardized KPI set which brings transparency to management. The target is to develop and define a standardized KPI set and process which can be useful for different companies. As a first step an online-questionnaire will be developed and will be send to German companies of different industries.
