social media privacy issues (Facebook/Cambridge Analytica)

If you think the topic is too hard, you can pick the one you want from below. I have to mention this is a Business Law class, so please write this paper around the law issues topic. If you have any question, feel free to contact me anytime, but this can’t be late as my final paper. Given our turbulent times there are many business law-related topics to research, to mention just a few: workplace sexual harassment (Harvey Weinstein, et al.); social media privacy issues (Facebook/Cambridge Analytica); sharing economy business models (Uber/Lyft,AirBnB, etc.) and municipal regulation; Insider Trading prosecutions (Salman v. United States); drone regulation; autonomous/driverless cars; banking scandals (Wells Fargo Bank/ Deutsche Bank); and the continuing Volkswagen emissions scandal. There are scores more topics. If you find yourself having difficulty finding a topic, pick up several copies of the Wall Street Journal — it’s divided into discrete sections covering: general business news (A section); marketing (B); finance/investment (C); and personal finance (D). On Mondays there are rotating sections on technology, health and other specific topics. Remember that our School of Management Research Librarian extraordinaire “Super” Penny Scott stands ready to offer you assistance in topic selection and finding legal resources. You an use either the APA or MLA formats. Be certain to completely cite all your authorities. Footnotes or end-notes are acceptable. A “business law topic” is purposefully broad to allow you to write on a topic related to your particular major. Ideally, the paper will serve as a foundation for other endeavors undertaken in your area of emphasis. I expect you to conduct legal research using the library, academic journals and reviews, publications e.g., Wall Street Journal, Barons, Business Week, Harvard Business Review, on-line resources and interviews. No WIKIPEDIA, textbook or Griffis lecture references or citations, I want original verifiable research and cited authorities. WIKIPEDIA is a good place to find source material, but do not cite the site. Be creative, several years ago one enterprising Legal Scholar knocked on the front door of Roomy Khan’s Atherton (San Mateo County) home. Mrs. Khan had just been named a defendant in the Galleon Hedge Fund federal insider trading case against Raj Rajaratnam, Galleon’s founder. She later pleaded guilty and was an important witness against Rajaratnam. Our scholar briefly interviewed Ms. Khan regarding her involvement in the fraud — the interview ceased the moment after Khan called her attorney to inquire if it was proper for her to talk to a B-Law Legal Scholar. Rajaratnam was convicted and sentenced to serve 11 years in Butler Federal Prison where Bernie Madoff and his “cellie” Bubba also reside.

The TNC Project. The Encountering of Local and Global: Assessing the Impact of TNCs on Their Host Economies in the Global Periphery

Your full paper should be 2000-2200 words (except references and figures). It should include a short introduction of your chosen TNC, and a brief answer to four questions: when, where, why and how has the TNC gone global. The main body of your essay is to describe and critically assess the impact of the particular TNC on one of its host economies in the global periphery. It is important to get your answers to the aforementioned why and how questions right in order to be able to carry out your critical assessment. The interaction between the TNC and its host economy should be during the last four decades or a particular period of it. Your paper should be centered on a thesis developed on the basis of your tentative argument/focus stated in the first submission. Though it is OK if you believe it is necessary to change your mind after further studies. Developing a strong thesis is crucial for the success of your essay. Your thesis should be centered on a critical assessment of the general impact of the TNC on its host economy: positive, negative, or some kind of mix of both. You should be arguing something more interesting and specific than “Corporation X is good/bad for Ys economy”. You will receive assistance from the instructor and TA on this along the way. For some tips on developing a strong thesis, please visit the following site: https://www.writing.utoronto.ca/advice/planning-and-organizing/thesis-statements For more information on U of T writing resources and support, see www.writing.utoronto.ca and https://geography.utoronto.ca/department/resources-for-dept/wit-program/ In the main section of your paper, with a focus on your thesis, you are expected to describe the nature and mechanism of the interaction between the TNC and the host economy and the key actors involved in the process based on your research. Then you should explain why this has been the case, and discuss what could be done to make the situation better, if possible. In your conclusion, you should briefly summarize the key findings of your research project. More detailed guidelines regarding your TNC essay will be provided later.
