Final Consulting Project Econ 3001 Fall 2018 The Gathering Place and the Wisconsin Craft Brewing Industry Overview: The purpose of this report is to help you employ the tools that we have discussed in class. You will be analyzing demand for The Gathering Place (TGP) Beer in the context of the craft brewery industry. Introduction: Describe the craft beer industry in the US generally, and the state of Wisconsin specifically. How has this industry evolved? What trends do you see from the data you can find? What does this information mean to TGP? Model Set Up: You have been given a variety of data as well as information about many macroeconomic variables over the course of the semester. Identify your dependent variable and find at least five independent variables to include in your model. They may not all be in the spreadsheets I have provided. You may also follow the links from the FRED database and review the information from the macroeconomic presentations that are posted in D2L as well. For each independent variable: Provide a description of the variable, how you would expect it to interact with the dependent variable, and if it is not the ideal fit, what would the ideal variable look like. Provide a correlation matrix and explain why this matrix justifies using these variables in your model. Identify 3 variables that TGP could keep track of that would help it to analyze future demand. (These dont have to be things that would be easy to keep track of just legitimately helpful in predicting their demand curve.) Your Model: You may end up running many regressions before you decide on the best model. I dont want to see anything but the final, best model that you have to put forth. For the final model: Provide the summary regression output for your model that includes the labels of the variables in some understandable way. Use that output and state your generalized demand curve and simplify that to your specified demand curve. Explain to TGP why this model is considered a good model using the three benchmarks weve used all semester long to establish a good model. Based on the final specified demand curve, what is the current price elasticity of demand? Based on the final specified demand curve, what is the equation of TR and MR for this firm? If MR equals zero, then what price does that mean TGP should charge? What quantity should they produce? Putting it in Industrial Context: Consider the market structure characteristics for different industry types. Identify those characteristics for the Gathering Place. From these characteristics make at least one claim about the industry that TGP is in. Can you find at least two pieces of evidence to support your claim (say using the price information or quantity information from data given or found elsewhere?)? From a national perspective, there are some potential and looming threats for any firm in the craft beer company from some pretty big fish.
