-Provide a CONFIDENTIALITY statementNEVER use real names when you are describing individuals in your writings. You may use false names or initials.

-For field visits where you are interacting and have obtained consent: you must provide a statement at the beginning of each entry to indicate that you have used false names or initials.
-For naturalistic observation where you are simply observing in a public place: provide a clear statement at the beginning of your entry that you have done naturalistic observation and that you have not interacted with the children in any way, and that you have used false names or initials.
-For the rest of the entry, think about the events of your visit (What happened? What did the child do/say? What did you do/say/observe?)
-As you describe your many experiences, think of any specific terms, concepts, theories, issues, research findings, etc. covered in the online lessons or text that relate to the different events/situations.
-It may be something major, or something incidental. (Ask yourself What have I read so far that relates to what I observed or experienced today?).
-Focus on identifying concepts (use a term, mention a theory, note a research finding) and describing how they were shown in what you experienced.
-Remember that complete integration requires both a course concept (a term / theory / finding) and a corresponding example from your experiences (and of course a reference).
-The situations you describe should accurately reflect the term/concept/finding you refer to as a result, definitions and/or detailed discussions are not necessary – you can be brief and to the point. You must also reference each connection (see info below).
-Placing the reference info immediately following the term/concept/theory/finding will clearly identify it as a link/integration.

Why is climate change such an intractable problem to solve? What is holding us back? And how do we overcome those obstacles in order to avoid climate catastrophe?

write a 4-5 page research essay in which you offer an answer to all of the questions above in the form of a single, focused argument. This argument must first explain why you think climate change is such an intractable problem and what you think can or should be done to overcome the obstacles standing in the way of solving it. Your essay must use at least three (and no more than six) sources as evidence and support for your argument. At least two of these sources must be drawn from essays or texts that we did NOT read in class. In other words, you will have to do some research for this research essay. All sources must be properly cited in MLA format and should be included in a works cited page at the end of your essay. For more on how to cite sources using the MLA format, see the handout on Blackboard Outline:
Here is a snapshot of at least one way you might choose to organize your essay.Paragraph One:For this opening paragraph I want you to first briefly introduce your subject (the climate change dilemma, for instance) then offer an answer to the questions above in the form of a thesis statement. By the end of this opening paragraph your reader (assume your reader knows very little about the issue) should have a clear understanding of the general subject of the essay, the question being addressed, and what your argument is in response to that question. Remember to consider the So What? and the Who Cares? when presenting your argument to the reader.Paragraphs Two and Following:
Explain and develop your argument in greater detail and use the concepts we studied in the first section of the textbook (quotation, paraphrase, summary, etc) to help explain and provide evidence and support for your argument by using and engaging with what other people have said about the issue (in other words, your sources). You may want to first spend a paragraph or two talking about why the problem of climate change is so intractable and then a paragraph or two explaining what you think can or should be done to overcome those obstacles. On the other hand, you may organize your essay in any way that you think is best for helping your reader understand your argument. Also be sure to consider the objections of those who might disagree with you and to offer some counter-arguments when appropriate. Final Paragraph:As always your final paragraph should reiterate in some interesting way your overall argument and remind the reader why that argument matters.

2) To what extent do theories you have learned in class help explain the behavior of the states in Statecraft? You do not need to evaluate all the theories we have studied. You can focus on one or two.3) To what extent do the actions that happened in Statecraft resemble the real world? Provide relevant example(s) / discussion to demonstrate your point. Your examples should be well developed and will lose points if they contain factual errors (for example, if you say World War II started in 1935, you will lose points). Citations are helpful. To be clear, the paper should be a unified, cohesive essay with a single thesis. Your paper should have not have three unconnected parts answering these questions, but rather a single essay that weaves these elements into the paper.
