Describe the event, its historical import, and situate the event within its historical and cultural context, and within Jewish-Christian relations.

Turning Points in Jewish-Christian Relations Pick one historical event that is generally recognized as important in Jewish-Christian relations (Yavneh, Council of Nicaea, Convivencia, the Holocaust, etc.). Make an argument as to whether you think of this event as a turning point in Jewish-Christian relations, and bring evidence to support your claims. Be sure to read primary sources carefully and critically. To complete this paper successfully, you will want to use primary sources (Nicene creed, rabbinic sources, Mein Kampf, etc.) and at least two other scholarly resources in addition to the materials assigned for class.

What was its political, religious, and/or social message? How does it relate to the era it originated or what does it teach us about the society where it originated?

The primary source analyses (PSA) should be at least 200-300 words (that is, roughly 1/2-1 page if you have 1 margins, 12 font, Times New Roman, and double-spaced). All psa should be written in paragraph form. What do you do in a primary source analysis? Glad you asked. Each primary source analysis should explain to the reader for example:1) Who was the author[s], date and/or origins of the primary source?2) To whom was document directed?3) What was the main idea and/or argument of the primary source?

In Della Porta and Tarrow’s introduction to Transnational Processes and Social Activism they define Transnational Collective Action as coordinated international campaigns on the part of networks of activists against international actors, other states, or international institutions.

The articles this week focus on one of the primary themes of Peace and Justice: Bridging the Global-Local Divide. These campaigns may occur in physical spaces that are located within the boundaries of nation-states, or they may occur in digital spaces that transcend boundaries. Smith analyzes the Battle in Seattle and argues that transnational linkages among members of various social movements has led to innovation and adaptation in the forms of protest used to push an agenda. Smith argues that the various actors created a “protest repertoire that both adapts forms that have been typical of national social movement repertoires and expands the repertoire to address multilateral institutional arenas” (27). Did Smith make a convincing argument that participation in various forms of protest (see pages 31-32 for a list) helped to create ties and linkages between transnational actors? How important is face-to-face contact in group cohesion? Which form of protest (other than marches) did you find to be the most innovative?
