Your first step is to identify an interpersonal communication behavior that you wish to improve. This should be specific for each person.

Truly think about where you think you struggle in communication and where you want to improve. Write a short paper (2pages) that summarizes your research and outlines a specific plan for improving the behavior. Some examples of an interpersonal behavior you wish to improve might be things such as not interrupting when others are talking, improving tone of voice, habing open body language, being better about elaboration or starting conversations with different types of people, learning how to converse more appropriately at work, etc. There are A LOT of behaviors. Think
about how you behave in different groups or scenarios. Be sure to include your plan on how you are going
to improve. It is not enough just to say, I am just going to focus and improve. Give examples and ideas
of how you will keep yourself on track and monitor this.
Part two:
For this part you will keep a record of your progress in the form of a journal. Each entry should describe your
active efforts to improve your chosen interpersonal skills. Be specific! Include an assessment of how well you accomplished your objectives. This means do not just write down examples of the communication but document how you felt about them and where you struggled and where you improved. Be sure to include successes and non-successes in your journal entries. After the description, suggest reasons why you might have been more or less successful in the situation. For example on one half of the paper you may document just the data (such as what you said) and on other side of paper your assessment of why you said that and if you feel you successfully communicated or needed improvement, or what you want to change and why. This is an easy way to set up your journal. You may set it up another way if you want, however, any method you choose must meet the following
requirements: minimum of 15 entries on that specific behavior and you actively using it, each entry must be dated and you must identify who you communicated with and a little bit about your relationship with this person or persons, the setting, daytime, and how you were feeling that day.
