Article Reviews:
Each student will have the opportunity to do environmental scanning by submitting three article reviews. The due dates for each of the reviews are listed on the schedule at the end of the syllabus. Each article review will be 2 pages in length. Reviews will be double-spaced using 12pt. font and 1” margins. Points will be deducted if these criteria are not met. The first section should include a summary of the important information contained in the article.

The second part of your review should discuss what an individual or a business manager might gain from reading the article and how it applies to a topic we have discussed in class. Also, tell me about one question that article left unanswered for you. Make sure to include a citation of your article after your review.

The article reviews will be discussed in class, so come prepared. I prefer that you use article from current business periodicals (within the last 6 months). Also, the articles should be substantial in length. A one-column newspaper article would not be appropriate. When possible, attach a copy of the article to your review.

Article reviews will be graded on the following criteria:
Citation 5 points
Article Summary 10 points
How a business manager would use info 10 points
How it applies to a topic discussed in class 10 points
Unanswered question 5 points
Length/font/margins 5 points
Spelling/grammar/punctuation 5 points
All article reviews must be submitted on or before the due date. Late article reviews will not be accepted and you will receive a zero for the assignment

For many global companies, China represents a very attractive market in terms of size and growth rate. Yet, it ranks lower in terms of economic freedom and higher in political risk than other country markets because it has a communist government. Despite these risks, there are hundreds of companies that have established manufacturing operations in China. The composition
Discuss the major elements of form in the image. What are the horizontal lines? How about the verticals? Diagonals? Any prominent triangles, circles, or squares? What lines or shapes catch the eye the most?

The picture space
Is the represented space flat or deep (is there recession into depth or does your eye stays on the surface? Is the horizon line high or low? Does a panoramic view suggest limitless space and thus freedom? Might a view from above looking down emphasize depth and therefore power? An omniscient point of view?

The color
What are the dominant colors in the image? Does one color link several areas of the picture? Does an important object blend in with or stand out from the surroundings? Do the colors seem symbolic in some way? For example, does a color suggest nature or sexuality?

The lighting
What are the brightest areas of the image? The darkest? Does the light seem to come from any particular location or is it diffuse and all-over? Is there an object that is brightly lit or in shadow? What about the rest of the image?

Present a formal description of your work. Use the description that you write while at the museum as the basis of this section of the paper. It is helpful to refer to Sylvan Barnett’s A Short Guide to Writing About Art (New York: Harper Collins College Publishers, 2009) for this section of your paper.
