Multiple Regression Analysis

In week 8 you are going to submit 2 components; a PowerPoint presentation and an Excel spreadsheet with your calculations. There will be no traditional report in Word, as the intent of this exercise is to demonstrate your ability to calculate and present the data.

For your project:

Depending on the data set that you develop, you may do a one or two-sample test. If doing a one sample test, look through recent articles on the Internet for someone else’s claim about the population parameter that you will support or refute.
Formulate your informal hypothesis (i.e. what you think is true). For example: “The average number of hours that American teenagers (ages 13 to 16) sleep is less than that for the general population.” State why you think your hypothesis is true. Write your formal null and alternative hypothesis.
Using the sampling technique assigned to your data set, describe how data may have been gathered using this technique.
Create a frequency distribution table for your sample(s) in Excel. Create a histogram or bar chart, as applicable.
Calculate sample mean, median, mode and standard deviation or sample proportion, as applicable, for your sample(s) in Excel.
Create a confidence interval for your sample(s).
Test your hypothesis.
Formulate a conclusion based on your results. State formally and informally.

Show all your calculations and back-up work in an Excel file. Make sure that the Excel file is organized, complete and clear. Do not forget to put the data set you have selected in the first worksheet of your Excel file.

Assemble all of your results and comments in a PowerPoint presentation that includes the following:

Title page
Introduction – What you are studying and why?
Hypothesis – State informally and formally.
Method – Using the sampling technique assigned to your data set, describe how the data may have been collected?
Results – Graph(s), table(s), descriptive statistics, confidence interval(s), steps for hypothesis-testing – insert graphs and tables from Excel
Conclusions – Reject or fail to reject your null hypothesis, state formally and informally.
References in APA format.

Submit your course project documents (PowerPoint and Excel spreadsheet).

Culminate the learning achieved in the course by describing your understanding and application of knowledge in the field of human resource management.

Reflective Paper

The Reflective Paper should demonstrate understanding of the reading assignments as well as the implications of new knowledge. The eight-page paper should integrate readings and class discussions into work and life experience. It may include explanation and examples from previous experience as well as implications for future application.

The purpose of the Reflective Paper is for you to culminate the learning achieved in the course by describing your understanding and application of knowledge in the field of human resource management.

Focus of the Reflective Paper

The primary function of human resource management is to increase the effectiveness and contribution of employees in the attainment of organizational goals and objectives. Consider all the areas of HRM that have been discussed in class:

EEO and Affirmative Action,
Human resources planning, recruitment, and selection,
Human resources development,
Compensation and benefits,
Safety and Health, and
Employee and labor relations.

Submit a Reflective Paper in which you explain how these aspects work together to perform that primary function. Are any aspects more important than the others? Why or why not? How do you believe the HRM role can be optimized for shaping organizational and employee behavior?

The Reflective Paper must: (a) identify the main issues in the chosen area, (b) demonstrate new learning that has occurred, (c) include class activities or incidents that facilitated learning and understanding, (d) identify specific current and/or future applications and relevance to your workplace, and (e) reflect the potential impact to your future career plans or even in your personal life at home. The emphasis of the Reflective Paper should be on parts ‘d’ and ‘e,’ and on the application of new learning. Explore, in depth, the benefits of the new learning and understanding that has taken place.

Identify and evaluate Lululemon’s current stated marketing goals and objectives

Lululemon Athletica (Lululemon) is a yoga and athletic attire company, with over 200 stores and a

presence in 14 countries. In recent years it has been faced with a number of public relations nightmares,

including a recall of 17% of its Luon pants due to excessive sheerness. Additional issues arose, when

part of the brand strategy was to avoid the selling of larger-sized clothing. Additional outrage arose when

women tried to return the defective pants, and they were asked to bend over to demonstrate the

sheerness of the product. Additionally, investor concerns arose and lawsuits were filed due to executive

bonuses that occurred just prior to the recall.

Argument-Counter Argument 3 Part Paper 2,000+ Words

3 Part Paper – Uses attached text as one of the resources

TOPIC:Should it be legal for employers to discipline or fire employees on the basis of their content aired in social networks, even if this activity was not done on the job?

Part 1:Initial – 500 words with scholarly sources including attached text

This is an exercise that should build toward your Final Paper. Your task is to construct the best argument you can for a position on the topic. The argument should be your own creation. You may take inspiration from other arguments, but the formulation of the argument you present should be original to you.

Construct an argument for a position on the topic. This is the position that you will defend in your Final Paper. Make your argument as good as possible: In particular, make sure that all of your premises are true and that the truth of the conclusion is demonstrated by your premises.

Consider possible objections to your argument, and revise it several times until you have an argument that is as strong as possible.

WRITE: Present a main argument in standard form with each premise and the conclusion on a separate line.

Provide support for each premise of your argument. Explain the meaning of the premise, and provide supporting evidence for the premise. [One paragraph for each premise]

Pay special attention to those premises that could be seen as controversial. Evidence may include academic research sources, supporting arguments, or other ways of demonstrating the truth of the premise. This section should include at least one scholarly research source.

Explain how your conclusion follows from your premises.

Part 2: Follow up – 700 words with scholarly sources including attached text
Counterargument

This paper expands upon your previous paper and prepares you for the Final Paper. The main new tasks are to revise your previous argument to present a counterargument (an argument for a contrary conclusion), and to develop an objection to your original argument.

Here are the steps to prepare to write the counterargument paper:

review the previous paper .

Revise your argument, improving it as much as possible, accounting for any suggestions and in light of further material you have learned in the course. If your argument is inductive, make sure that it is strong. If your argument is deductive, make sure that it is valid.

Construct what you take to be the strongest possible argument for a conclusion contrary to the one you argued for in the initial paper. This is your counterargument. This should be based on careful thought and appropriate research.

Consider the primary points of disagreement between the point of view of your original argument and that of the counterargument.

Think about what you take to be the strongest objection to your original argument and how you might answer the objection while being fair to both sides.

WRITE: Present a revised argument in standard form, with each premise and the conclusion on a separate line.

Present a counterargument in standard form, with each premise and the conclusion on a separate line.

Provide support for each premise of your counterargument. Clarify the meaning of the premise and supporting evidence for the premise.

Pay special attention to those premises that could be seen as controversial. Evidence may include academic research sources, supporting arguments, or other ways of demonstrating the truth of the premise. This section should include at least one scholarly research source.

Explain how the conclusion of the counterargument follows from its premises. [One paragraph]

Discuss the primary points of disagreement between sincere and intelligent proponents of both sides. [One to two paragraphs]

For example, you might list any premises or background assumptions on which you think such proponents would disagree and briefly state what you see as the source of the disagreement, you could give a brief explanation of any reasoning that you think each side would find objectionable, or you could do a combination of these.

Present the best objection to your original argument. Clearly indicate what part of the argument your objection is aimed at, and provide a paragraph of supporting evidence for the objection. Reference at least one scholarly research source. [One to two paragraphs]

See the “Practicing Effective Criticism” section of Chapter 9 of your primary textbook for more information about how to present an objection.

Part 3: Final – 1,000+ words with scholarly sources including attached text

Explain the topic you are addressing and your position on it. Provide a preview of your paper and a statement of your thesis in your opening paragraph. [Approximately 100 words]
Present your main argument for your thesis in standard form, with each premise and the conclusion on a separate line. Clearly indicate whether your argument is intended to be inductive or deductive. Follow up the presentation of your argument by clarifying the meaning of any premises that could use some explanation. [About 150 words]
If your argument is deductive, then it should be valid (in the strict logical sense of the word); if it is inductive, then it should be strong. Make sure to avoid committing logical fallacies within your argument (e.g., begging the question). Additionally, the premises should be true, to the best of your knowledge. If one of your premises has a pretty obvious counter-example, then you should either fix the argument so that it does not have this flaw, or later, in your paper (steps three through five) you should address the apparent counter-example (showing that it does not really refute the truth of your premise). Arguments that are not valid, not very strong, commit fallacies, or that have counter-examples that are not adequately addressed will not receive full credit.
Provide supporting evidence for the premises of your argument. [Approximately 350 words]
Pay special attention to those premises that could be seen as controversial. Evidence may include academic research sources, supporting arguments (arguments whose conclusions are premises of the main argument), or other ways of demonstrating the truth of those premises. This section should include at least one scholarly research source.
Explain a strong objection to your argument. [Approximately 250 words]
Study what people on the other side of this question think about your reasoning and present the best possible objection that someone could have to your argument. Do not commit the straw man fallacy here. Reference at least one scholarly research source. See the “Practicing Effective Criticism” section of Chapter 9 of the course text for more information.
Defend your argument against the objection. [Approximately 200 words]
Once you have presented the objection, indicate clearly how you might respond to it. It is acceptable to admit that reasonable people might disagree with you or that there might be an area in which your argument could be further strengthened, but you should do your best to explain why your argument is sound or cogent despite the objections.
Provide an appropriate conclusion. [Approximately 75 words]
For guidance about how to develop a conclusion see the Introductions and Conclusion.

For further instruction on how to create arguments, see the How to Construct a Valid Main Argument and Tips for Creating an Inductively Strong Argument documents as well as the Contructing Valid Arguments Video. For an example of a completed Final Paper, see the annotated example The Ethics of Elephants in Circuses. Let your instructor know if you have questions about how to complete this paper

Write an essay in which you discuss theme of Theodore Roethke’s poem “My Papa’s Waltz.”

Project description
Write an essay in which you discuss theme of Theodore Roethke’s poem “My Papa’s Waltz.” Include analysis of the elements of poetry he employs in order to convey this theme. Incorporate the criticism by McKenna provided in Writing Assignments folder. Source documentation is provided at the bottom of the assignment instructions. Be sure, however, to check the documentation with the model from the handbook.

In your essay you will use two sources: the poem by Roethke and the critical essay by McKenna. Review proper documentation format carefully. The Roethke poem is an entry in an anthology. The McKenna essay is an entry in a journal and has been accessed through an electronic database. Be very careful in setting up your external documentation.

You are quoting from a poem. Be very attentive to proper quotation of the poetic line. You must indicate line break or you have misquoted the poem. Incorrect use of the original, misquotation, is documentation failure. Consult the handbook for citation guidelines.

Do not neglect to include a formal, roman numeral, topic outline as required with all essays in ENG 102.

The only sources this essay should include are the given criticism and the poem. You must list both the primary source (the poem) and the secondary source (the outside source) on your Works Cited page.
Use the following citation add proper hanging indent in Word for the outside source to be included in your Works Cited:

McKenna, John J. “Roethke’s Revisions And The Tone Of ‘My Papa’s Waltz.'” Anq 11.2 (1998): 34-38. Literary Reference Center. Web. 11 Aug. 2014.

Scholar-Practitioner Project Assignment: Survey Protocol

At the heart of every effective survey is a clear set of questions. Unclear questions give unclear answers. Specifically, when developing a community health assessment survey, you need to know what questions to ask in order to elicit the pertinent information. It is also important that you know how questions should be phrased in order to be understood by the receiver. A survey protocol contains a copy of the survey instrument(s) to be used and describes details of the methods and procedures to be used for data collection and management.

Review this week’s Resources to gather information about developing an effective survey protocol. You then apply this information into creating a survey protocol for your Scholar-Practitioner Project. When developing your survey protocol questions, be sure to consider whether you would use a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method.

The Assignment (5–6 pages):

Submit a 5- to 6 page protocol for a survey to gather information about the problem in your Scholar-Practitioner Project. The protocol should include the following:

A brief set of objectives for the survey
Describe the population you would sample and explain why.
Describe your data collection method you might use and explain why.
Describe your data analysis method and explain why.
A 1-page (10–20 questions) questionnaire for the survey.

Use the Resources and current literature to support your response.

(Note: The students will not be conducting the survey, only preparing the protocol.)
