Assignment 3: Annotated Note Taking

Annotated note taking is a very useful strategy for learning new concepts. Annotated note taking is a more active form of learning than simply reading and highlighting. It also adds a more personalized element to learning by allowing a person to monitor his or her comprehension. Annotated notes are also helpful for quick review at some later point in time.

The concepts and techniques you are learning in this course are fundamental building blocks upon which a solid career as an industrial/organizational (I/O) professional can be developed. For this assignment, you will write detailed notes that should help you cement these concepts during this initial learning stage and provide a very useful resource for you to draw upon throughout your program of study and beyond graduation too.

Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the study of how often diseases occur in different people and why they occur. Epidemiology can help us track diseases and find out when an outbreak is occurring or if a disease is decreasing due to a public health interventions.

Homeostasis—The Importance of Being in Balance

When many people think of homeostasis they think of their body being in balance or the flight or flight response. Homeostasis is the maintenance of physiological conditions required to maintain the life of the organism. Cannon (1932) has come up with some theories on homeostasis. What are Cannon’s (1932) theories on homeostasis? What is the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) definition of engineering methods, also known as engineering controls?

There are five key engineering methods developed to reduce or eliminate the spread of infection and disease. How effective do you think these methods have been? Of these methods, which one has been the most effective and which one the least effective? Why? Just War Theory was created centuries ago to create moral guidelines for nation-states and leaders to determine when the use of war is justified in pursuit of a nation’s interests. Recently, the U.S. pursued a preemptive war in Iraq based on the alleged Iraqi acquisition of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

For this paper you will examine the traditional justifications for war with modern justifications for war, and address the following:

Analyze how Just War theory has been applied to U.S. military campaigns from 1945-1994.
