In this project, I will be working with a partner to follow a hotly contested senatorial or gubernatorial election. In pairs i will gather research on an assigned election, and predict not only the winner of the said election, but also its impact upon party politics in the nation.

7. Create a presentation in which you will present your election, its candidates, issues, and prediction of who will win.

After reading the article and watching the videos from the attached link, discuss the following:

Should the Westboro Baptist Church be permitted to engage in this form of speech at such private and intimate moments for families that lost a loved one in combat?
You don’t necessarily have to agree with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court.
In the article, we learn that the Supreme Court ruled that the First Amendment protects groups that organize anti-gay protests outside military funerals. Recently, The Westboro Baptist Church based in Topeka, Kansas, received media attention for actively attending military funerals for U.S. soldiers that were killed in action in order to express their views.

The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is an independent Baptist church known for its extreme stance against homosexuality and its protest activities, which include picketing at funerals for fallen members of our military and desecrating the American flag. The church is described by many as a hate group. In addition to anti-gay protests at military funerals, the organization pickets other celebrity funerals that are likely to get it media attention.
As they have at hundreds of funerals, the Westboro members hold signs with provocative messages, including “Thank God for dead soldiers,” `’You’re Going to Hell,” `’God Hates the USA/Thank God for 9/11,” and one that combined the U.S. Marine Corps motto, Semper Fi, with a slur against gay men.

The lack of a national religion supported and established by the federal government has been hailed as one of the most important principles that ensure religious freedom in the United States. In addition, the ability to practice any religious or non-religious beliefs is equally applauded as a core tenant of religious freedom. Still, the debate over religious freedom continues throughout our nation. Currently, numerous organized religions co-exist with organizations for non-believers. In your opinion, what are the essential elements of religious freedom? Is separation of church and state necessary? Does the U.S. Constitution equally and effectively protect the rights of all religious believers and non-believers? Explain your reasoning, discuss why you are taking the positions you are taking in your response.

From the Introduction by Margaret C. Jacob, determine the factors that influenced the development and success of the Enlightenment in England. (Refer specifically to your textbook.)

Topic: Discuss the different ways Mexica and Inka art related their religious, economic and political practices to the surrounding landscape.
