In their essays, Brendon O’Connor and Mark Rice-Oxley argue that American cultural influence has been so overwhelming that it can be seen in almost every part of the world. They observe that many people in the world consume American food, follow American fashion, enjoy American entertainment products, and even use the American language. This love affair of the world with American cultural products can be explained by their easy accessibility and highly entertaining quality, fueled by U.S. multinational companies’ “unrivalled distribution and marketing advantages” (O’Connor 162).

As a result, despite some positive impacts such as the transmission of U.S. ideals of “individual rights, freedom of speech, and respect for women” (Rice-Oxley 163), some writers are concerned about the negative effects of American influence, including the loss of national identities, the decline of local businesses, and the creation of a single, homogeneous world culture (O’Connor 161-162). In addition, writers such as Martha Bayles suggest that many local cultures seem to be negatively influenced by American entertainment media, so often characterized by “profanity, nudity, violence and criminal activity” (174).

Write an essay in which you, as a person who has experienced both your own and American culture, critically evaluate the extent to which O’Connor’s and Rice-Oxley’s impression about the pervasive American influence on world culture holds true in your country. (The two authors say that the whole world has been influenced by American culture. Is it true in your country? Why?) Then, discuss the impact of such Americanization in your country. (As a result of consuming American cultural products, do people in your country experience some positive and/or negative effects? What are they?) If you left your country long ago, try to recall your impression on your latest visit home. If you haven’t visited your country recently, interview those who have.

In order to accomplish this task, you need to decide on a few specific aspects of American culture because it is not possible to discuss many aspects effectively and persuasively in the limited space of this essay. Finance is an exciting field in need of intelligent, skilled people. Currently, they utilize technology for their day-to-day operations but not to analyze data that could help with making business decisions. There have been heavy rains in the area all week. On Wednesday, a ceiling tile that had become wet from a leaking roof in Foods due to the heavy rain storms earlier in the week fell and hit some bags of peanuts causing the nuts to spill across the store aisle. Edie, a customer, entered the aisle, slipped on the peanuts and broke her leg and arm. The manager of Foods was unaware of the leaking roof and the wet ceiling tile and unaware that the peanuts had spilled onto the store floor.

On Friday, a small group of political protestors carrying signs and quietly chanting were marching back and forth the full length of the public sidewalk in front of Foods. Foods encompasses the entire block by the public sidewalk with entry and exit doors located directly in the center of the store building, and with privately owned parking in the back of the store. Sometimes the protestors were at either of the two ends of the sidewalk in front of Foods, and thus, not directly in front of the entry/exit door doors to Foods. The protestors did not walk on or enter the private parking lot owned by Foods; the protestors did not stop and congregate in front of the store or its entry/exit doors at any time. The management of Foods believed that the protestors were impeding the ingress and egress of customers into Foods end therefore interfering with business. Foods called the police to have the protestors removed.

The police did not arrest the protestors but did require them to stop marching and move away from Foods.

On Monday morning, Foods, Inc learned that they were sued by 2 Individuals. Melanie who when she was hired by the Manager of Foods she was told “Listen, I can pay you $8.00 an hour; but if business is good a year from now, and you are still here, I can pay you a solid bonus” Last week after 7 Months, she was terminated. The second was Alejandro who received an emailed job offer from Foods saying “We can pay you $60,000 per year, starting September 1^st .” He replied saying “Thank you! I accept your offer, though I will also need $2,200 in relocation money. See you September 1^st. Can’t wait!” On September 1^st Alejandro arrives to find that his position is filled

 How likely is Edie to win a negligence case against Foods for her injuries resulting from slipping on the peanuts? Why?

Active Filter Design Techniques

1. Refer to Chapter 6 in the text as needed.
2. Using the Fast, Practical Filter Design technique presented in section 6.3 design the following.  Be sure to show all work for full credit.

3. Create a MultiSIM schematic of each of your designs.  Provide a screenshot.
4. Perform a simulation of each design to demonstrate the filter behavior.  Take a screenshot.
5. From your simulation and screenshot in the above step, what is the gain in dB at the critical frequency for the low-pass filter and the high-pass filter?  What is the bandpass of the bandpass filter, and how did you determine it?
6. If you were to implement your high-pass filter in hardware, what considerations would you need to take into consideration?  How would these considerations impact the performance and the extent to which you would meet specifications?  Be specific!  Provide specific examples of the issues you would encounter based on your specific initial design and actions you would need to take to finalize your design.  Is there anything you would have done differently to create your initial design in step 2 above if you had thought about an implementation in hardware from the beginning?

Literature teaches us about the value of conflict. We experience conflict in our personal relationships and in our interactions with society. Literary analysis helps us recognize the conflict at work in literature, which gives us greater insight into the personal conflicts that we face. In addition, learning how to closely read, analyze, and critique a text is beneficial beyond a literature course in that it improves our writing, reading, and critiquing abilities overall.

How to Write a Literary Analysis

It is important to understand that some conflicts in literature might not always be obvious. Considering how an author addresses conflict via literary techniques can reveal other more complex conflicts or different kinds of conflicts that interact in multiple ways. Analyzing those more complicated elements can help you discover what literature represents about the human experience and condition. With this in mind, consider that your thesis might be a claim about how two pieces make similar representations, or it can show two different points of view on a similar issue.

The literary analysis should be organized around your thesis (argument), which is the controlling idea of the entire essay. In the Week Three assignment, you identified two conflicts and created an initial thesis statement in relation to two of the literary works from the List of Literary Works. In this assignment, you will refine that thesis even further and build on your overall argument utilizing the literary techniques below. Reflect on feedback from your Instructor and peers in previous weeks to help you revise your rough draft into a final paper.

For this literary analysis, write a 1250- to 1600-word essay in which you do the following:

• Revise/develop the thesis from Week Three based on the feedback you have received. Again, the thesis should focus on the conflict(s) you chose to write about. This thesis should provide deeper insight into the possible meanings surrounding the chosen conflict(s) that you see in the chosen literary texts. Throughout your analysis, you must use at least two primary sources and two sources from the Ashford University Library to support your thesis. • Review and incorporate instructor and classroom feedback on at least one conflict listed in Types of Conflict Found in Literature from two literary works in this course. One of the literary works must be a short story. See the List of Literary Works and Types of Conflict Found in Literature.
• Analyze three literary techniques to help define and draw out the conflict(s) chosen.
• Explain how the texts utilize the literary techniques below to describe the conflict(s).
