Analyze The Beast. What or who exactly is The Beast? What could The Beast represent or symbolize?

Essay 2 Prompt
For essay 2 you will be analyzing the miniseries Over the Garden Wall created by Patrick
McHale. Together we have watched the miniseries in class and discussed many important
themes that can be analyzed. We have also worked together to chart the changes in some of the
major characters. Remember that in your essay you are creating an argument. You are trying to
prove something to your reader about the miniseries.
Please choose ONE of the following options as the focus of your essay:
1. Track the identity formation of one character from the miniseries. As we have seen in
class, all of the characters change and develop throughout the show. What do these
changes tell us about the character?

3. Analyze The Unknown. What exactly is The Unknown? What could The
Unknown symbolize?
