1: Case Study (1500 words) The first piece of written work for this module is a case study. To inform this case study and in order to pass the module you are expected to arrange and negotiate your own primary research, which means interviewing a design professional. A case study is not the same thing as an essay, or an overview of a subjects portfolio or career history. While a case study may take a number of forms, by definition it seeks to investigate a particular design project, a singular aspect of a design practice, or a particular behaviour within the design profession as a whole. The most common form a case study takes is a detailed investigation of a particular project, informed by an interview with the projects designer or design team, and possibly the client. We will look at good examples of this type of case study in the lectures and seminars. This is what most of our students usually do, and it’s a perfectly good way to proceed with this assignment. But there are other ways of approaching a case study. Take, for example, the designer Astrid Stavro. Stavro is a designer working principally in print, and is based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. A case study on Stavro might focus in on one aspect of her working life, and seek to make a case for why this is relevant and important within the wider context of graphic design practice. Example subject areas for study might include: 1) Her decision to base her studio in the Balearic Islands, rather than on the mainland, which would seem to be the more obvious commercial choice. What was the thinking behind this decision, and in what ways is it an advantage? Indeed, are there other examples of designers seeking to work away from commercial hubs, and if so, what connects them? 2) Until recently, Stavro had her own studio, before joining forces with Grafika to form Design By Atlas. What was the motivation behind this decision? Is growing a studio an imperative, or is this merely an opportunity for Stavro to work in new contexts? 3) Design By Atlas has a policy of attaching a client to a partner, meaning that each client works with one designer rather than a semi-anonymous team. What is the thinking behind this process, and why do they see it as an advantage? What evidence is there that this is an advantage to both parties? 4) Printed books form a large part of Stavros portfolio. In the age of the e-book, what does she feel are the advantages / disadvantages of print, and what does she bring to the process as a designer and typographer? Is she interested in e-publishing? If not, why not? 5) Stavro has recently argued on Twitter and elsewhere that youre not much of a designer unless youre also a writer. What is the importance of writing in graphic design within the boundaries of Stavros practice, and what evidence within her work, and the work of others, can be used to illustrate this? These are only for examples. Your case study in this instance should address something you find interesting and important about a designer or design studio, and that will lead to new lines of enquiry for you and your practice. Ideas of environment (both professional and ecological), ethics, choice of materials / working methods, the role of social media in a studios output, political attitudes, client selection, education, the role and function of interns all of these and more might form the basis of a possible case study. 2: Reflective Essay (1500 words) The second assignment is a reflective essay in which you identify and consider your professional aspirations, the career route you would like to pursue, and the steps you need to take to address the sector of the profession within which you wish to develop your career. This essay should be written in light of the learning acquired during the Professional Studies module, and how this has influenced or affected your career considerations as a result. For example, we will be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of self-employment / employment / partnerships etc.; the costs of setting up a design practice; the kinds of working environment that may best suit your disposition; what employers look for in young designers; and much more. This information should lead to a clearer professional picture for you, and you should articulate your thoughts about all of it in the reflective essay. The shrewd student will realise that there is a beneficial relationship to be had between the case study, the reflective essay, and your own career. For example, if you wish to design book covers, then a case study that involves interviewing a book designer or publisher is both an opportunity to make great contacts, and also to ask questions that may lead to a clearer path towards this ambition. These can then be documented in the reflective essay.

Does race affect a persons stance on gun laws. A similar research has been done on this topic. The article was found on Google scholar via the Lehman College library page. The study was done by Kevin H. Wozniak four months after the Sandy Hook massacre. In this research he conducted a survey on gun law views.In the current state of our country gun violence has caused many tragedies. Possible gun reforms have been proposed with much objection from people who are passionate about their second amendment rights. In this research i will study which race is impacted the most with our current gun laws. Other events in our country that occurred are gun violence against minorities, the shooter will not be charged with anything. Massacres have taken place where assault rifles were the weapon of choice and they were easily obtained. These are military grade weapons that are easily obtainable, however not having these weapons presents an argument that it could have prevented many deaths by guns.
