What rhetorical appeals (logos, pathos, and ethos) are you using, and how are they effective?

Continuing from where you left off on the Daily Grade 15 document, add a conclusion section to your outline to the very end that breaks down how you plan to wrap up your argumentative research essay. Underneath the conclusion section of the outline, you should write a reflection paragraph explaining how you’ve constructed your conclusion and why you’ve made these choices. You might follow some of the suggestions on p. 158 of the English Composition Guide, such as using your conclusion as a call to action or leaving the readers with a question to ponder. It is also very common to trace the conclusion back to the introduction and bring the essay full circle. For instance, if you used an introductory hook such as an anecdote, quotation, or question, you might conclude with a similar or related anecdote (perhaps a continuation of the introductory anecdote, or an alternate version of it), a throwback to the introductory quotation (or a similar quotation), or the answer to the introductory question (or another related question). As always, make sure your reflection states what the paragraph’s overall purpose and goal are. What final impression do you want to leave your readers with about your topic, and how are you going to accomplish that?

Using the same outline you’ve been working on over the past week for Daily Grades 13 and 14, add an introduction section to the beginning.

The introduction should do three things: establish what your topic is about, why it’s important (in other words, why your readers should care), and what your argument is (your thesis statement). In some rare cases, though, your thesis statement may occur later in the essay; if you make such a decision with your paper, you should explain why in the reflection paragraphs. When framing your introduction, you might follow some of the suggestions from p. 154 of your comp guidebook regarding introductory hooks. A hook can be effective at grabbing readers’ attention and interest and making them want to continue reading. Examples of hooks include an intriguing or provocative quotation, a narrative or anecdote related to your topic, a question that you might answer or at least get your readers to ponder about as the essay goes along, or even just a strongly stated opinion that may come off as shocking to readers and arouse their curiosity to see where you plan to go with that idea.Beyond the hook, your introduction should frame the issue you’re writing about, provide reasons why your opponent should care (which may very well be the same reasons you used in Daily Grade 12), and provide readers with a road map to the body paragraphs of the essay (hence why we wrote those first). As the comp guidebook states, make sure your introduction does not deceive readers. Do not introduce ideas or raise questions that aren’t going to be addressed elsewhere in the paper. Also keep in mind that while argumentative essays are largely focused on logos, the introduction is an effective place to include a pathos appeal in order to make readers care about the issue you’re writing about.Your introduction can be more than one paragraph if you deem it necessary. Many people include a “background information” paragraph right after the introduction, for instance, and some of you might have already done that in a previous daily grade. However many portions of your outline you dedicate to your introduction, be sure to give each section of the outline its own reflection paragraph explaining the rhetorical and organizational choices you’ve made. If you used an introductory hook, what kind did you use and why do you believe it to be effective? Why did you organize your introduction as you did? What rhetorical appeals (logos, pathos, ethos) are you using in your introduction and why?

Consider a team you might create for your current organization or one with which you are familiar. For example, is there a project to be accomplished or a problem to be solved?

Perhaps there is a need for a leadership team within your unit or department? Post a description of the team you would create, including the purpose or goal the team would serve, the team type, and the specific skills each member would contribute as well as their job positions. Describe at least two leadership strategies you could implement to help this team effectively achieve its purpose or goal. Must use a minimum of 3 references to support this discussion. I have provided reference below that may be used. 1. Beeson, J. (2011). Build a strong team. Leadership Excellence, 28(2), 15. 2. Calendrillo, T. (2009). Team building for a healthy work environment.
