Olmstead et al., Meanings for Sex and Commitment Among First Semester College Men and Women: A Mixed-Methods Analysis

Through an investigation of the meanings that college students assign to sex and commitment, the study by Olmstead et al. reveals that not all relationships are motivated by the same feelings and intentions, with some merely seeking to fulfill a sexual need, as evident in hookup culture. Clearly, the reasons why people form relationships, with machines or other humans, are convoluted and debatable, inviting further discussion.
