Individual Paper. In addition to learning about your groups region, each member will select a tribe in their assigned geographic area and remain with their tribe throughout the semester. The final research paper will be an extension of the presentations, telling the story of your tribe from its known history to the present. Cover history, culture, music, and contemporary issues affecting the tribe. You will need to supplement your written sources with information drawn directly from the tribe itself. Most tribes have a website that includes a tribal history written by the tribe (or at the very least with their input and approval). Websites will also include contact information for tribal members and/or cultural historians who might be willing to speak with you. Written sources in the form of books and articles by academics are good, but they seldom tell the story of your tribe from an inside perspective, a perspective valued in the fields of Native American and Indigenous Studies. Papers should be 4-5 pages (1000-1250 words). Use a minimum of four written scholarly sources in addition to information taken from an official tribal website or individual tribal member. Cite your sources using in-text citations or footnotes following the Chicago style or MLA citation formats, and include a list of Works Cited. Please include a word count at the end of your paper, as well as the name of the classmate/s who reviewed your paper. The criteria for the papers includes: Paper draft DUE to peers to be workshopped on Wednesday, Apr. 18 Quality of content/ideas: Range and depth of the ideas; quality of the original thought; evidence of tribal perspectives; appropriate awareness of opposing views when applicable. Organization: Effective title; clarity of the overall topic; logical and clear arrangement of the ideas; effective use of transitions; unity and coherence of the sections; good development of ideas through supporting details and evidence. Quality sources: Inclusion and citation of material from tribal and/or peer-reviewed sources and class discussions. Sentence structure and mechanics: Grammatically correct sentences; absence of comma splices, run-ons and fragments; absence of usage and grammatical errors; accurate spelling; careful proofreading.

Fiction Paper Directions: Use Times New Roman Font or Arial size 12 1500 word minimum (not including the Works Cited page, which is separate) Title in bold Possible headings in size 12 font bold for each of the five parts below (this is not part of the 1500 word min. though) to make it easier to read Use MLA Style with at least four quotes from your selected story (additional sources must be cited both in text and in the Works Cited). With quotes, make sure that you have a signal phrase and that you don’t have ‘hanging quotes.’ The page number is in parentheses, and the period follows. A good example of using quotes in literature: When he hears Cordelia’s answer, Lear seems surprised, but not dumbfounded. He advises her to “mend [her] speech a little” (273). Use present tense to describe the action in the story. Read There Will Come Soft Rains and examine it carefully. the essay must be organized in the following manner: Part One: The Plot (1-2 paragraphs) Part Two: Setting, Atmosphere, Pattern/Structure, Point of View (3 paragraphs min.) Examine the setting, atmosphere, and pattern/structure of the story. Is the setting significant to the meaning? Is there a mood or atmosphere? Is the narrator reliable? What would be gained or lost if the story was told from another point of view? Part Three: Characters (1 page min.) Who is the main character? Does this person change? What sort of a person is he/she? Is this character sympathetic? What other characters are important? Do you personally identify with any of the characters? How and why? This is not plot again–analyze, analyze, analyze Part Four: Symbolism, Images, Irony (1 page min.) Identify and interpret symbols in the story. Is anything about the story ironic? What images are most vivid? Part Five: Theme and Meaning (1 paragraph min.) How does the title relate to the other elements in the story and to the overall meaning? What is the theme of this story? How did you come to this conclusion? Works Cited Page (not included as part of the 1500 word min.) The Words Cited minimally must include your story (see instructions below) For other works, such as websites, consult your textbook (see the MLA part) or use easybib.com (make sure you are using MLA style)

What do we still need to know to address the problem? (Gaps of knowledge) o To what extent do existing efforts to address the social problem work for our specific community? What are the things that would work? Why? What are the things that would not work? Why? Summary o Brief reflection on what you have learned in the doing this assignment with respect to the social problem in your community o What information would you still need to know to address the problem in your community? What questions are you still left with? Note: Be sure to use a human rights and social justice analysis in: 1) the definition and contextualization of the social problem and 2) the discussion of how the issue has been addressed elsewhere? How do questions of power, oppression and inequality play into how the social problem takes place (e.g. disproportionately impacts vulnerable communities) and how the social problem is addressed (e.g. are those most impacted by the problem enrolled in research efforts/study samples?
Funder Research Memo For this assignment, students will write a 4 to 5 page memo describing the search for a funder for an identified agency (4 to 5 pages exclusive of references). First, the student must set the context and describe the agency, the population it serves and the problem the agency seeks to address. Next, the memo should explain the students process of identifying potential funders. The main body of the memo should include a summary of at least three potential strong fitting funders followed by a rational for how the agency fits within the funders theory of change. By the end of the memo, students should sum up how their ideas evolved during the process and why they believe these are the best possible funding options. The memo may be written in a first person narrative style and should reflect the students thinking process as they research funders and attempt to determine agency funder fit. Students may draw on written materials from foundation search engines, general internet searches and conversations with colleagues regarding past experiences with the founder. Students will be graded on the quality of the research, the goodness of fit between the agency goal and funder goal as well as the evidence provided of their thinking process. The goal is to not only find potential funders for the agency, but also to report on the process of researching the potential funders and analyzing the prospects for a match.

Founded in 1948 the company currently employs more than 10,000 people. The students need to answer the following two questions for this assignment. QUESTION 2The company is examining the possibility to expand further worldwide and the CEO (Ben Lewis) would like to seek your advice about the feasibility and entry strategies for entering a new country. You are required to examine the following three aspects of internationalisation and provide recommendations based on the analyses you have carried out: (a) Suggest only one country to enter and based on thorough analysis provide the rationale for choosing this country for international expansion; this country can be anywhere in the world except those that the company has already a presence there. (25 marks) (b) Suggest the optimal rate of international expansionin the chosen country (Small or Large scale expansion); and (10 marks) (c) The most suitable entry strategy and entry mode for entering that particular country. (25 marks) (60 marks in total for Q2) For Question 1: You could do a STEEPLE analysis on the general environment of UK to assess various trends relating to the general environment and identify various opportunities and threats facing River Island. You could also do a Porters five forces analysis to assess the attractiveness of River Island. These analyses would help you to gain a good understanding of the situation in the domestic market (UK) and identify potential benefits of internationalisation. Your analysis should also include (i) an examination of the market demand for the high street fashion industry that exist in the UK market (i.e. level of saturation of the market, possibilities for further domestic expansion) (ii) a discussion about whether the company should go abroad for deriving substantial benefits; (iii) cost considerations relating to these potential expansions and other relevant economic issues (i.e. exchange rates); (iv) possible trade barriers might have an impact on overseas expansion; and (v) level of political stability, availability of infrastructure, labour costs and other relevant issues in certain countries which are potential targets for overseas expansion. For Question 2: Q2(a) In this question you need to suggest a country which could be chosen as a target for overseas expansion for River Island and provide the rationale for choosing this country. You need to assess the level of attractiveness of the countries under consideration for international expansion by examining the levels of demand for the products that River Island offers, extent of market saturation for these products (i.e. some countries offer excessive range of the above products, some others dont have). You also need to look at the cultural factors that impact choosing clothes in the host country. After identifying a suitable country for international expansion, you could do a STEEPLE analysis on this country and also a Porters five forces analyses of the industries relevant to River Island in this country. These analyses are similar to the STEEPLE and five forces analyses with a focus on the UK market suggested to answer question 1. Here the difference is that you will be focussing on the chosen country when you carry out these analyses.Q2(b) Here the focus should be on whether the company should start expansion in that country on a small scale or should it go on a large scale. You could examine the advantages and disadvantages of each option by evaluating the conditions that exist and suggest the option to be chosen.Q2(c) In this question you need to suggest the most suitable international strategy and the most appropriate mode of entry for River Island to enter the foreign market. While discussing about the suitability of the international strategies you could examine the internal resources and capabilities of River Island, levels of pressure for cost reduction the company is facing (high or small?), the extent of local adaptation which have to be implemented while entering the chosen country, the extent of global integration which could to achieved, the advantages relating to economies of scale and scale which can be derived etc. could be examined. These factors along with other relevant factors need to be considered while choosing the most suitable strategy option. There are four major strategies namely Global Standardization, Localization (also known as Multidomestic), Transnational and International (also known as Home Replication) strategies. In the second part of the question you need to suggest the most appropriate mode of entry for entering the chosen country. There are six different entry modes namely Exporting, Turnkey Project, Licencing, Franchising, Joint Venture and Wholly owned subsidiary (Greenfield venture or Acquisition). You need to suggest the most preferable entry mode. This is an individual assignment and should be presented in a REPORT format with a word count of 3,000 words (word count excludes figures, tables, charts, appendices and list of references). The editorial requirements are: font Arial 12 and one and a half line spacing. General Advice It is important to bear in mind the following when producing your individual submission:2. Focus. This itself is related to 1 above. Given the word limit, it is impossible to cover every possible point in detail. Consequently, you will need to decide what to include, what to exclude and which areas should be given greater importance in your submission. In doing so, you should provide some rationale for these decisions you have taken in focusing your submission. 3. Relevant theory/models/frameworks/concepts. This point itself relates to the above two points (and the one that follows). Very soon in your research you are likely to find that a major problem is the volume of information available. Appropriate use of relevant theory/models/ frameworks/concepts provides a means of deciding what information is included, how much weight it is given, and how it might be analysed and evaluated. 4. Depth of Research. The report should demonstrate your ability to identify the relevant and authentic sources of information thus demonstrating deep research capabilities. 5. Description vs. Analysis and Evaluation. It is important that your submission demonstrates that you have attempted to analyse and evaluate the information you are presenting. Simply reproducing factual information that you have gathered is likely to result in a fail mark for your submission.. Format and Framework. You will need to decide on an organising/logical framework for your submission. A good framework provides a logical structure for analysis and evaluation. It should enable you to establish a clear line of development of your arguments, leading to your conclusions and recommendations. The format should reflect the chosen framework. The appropriate use of headings and subheadings should allow the reader to follow the logical development of your argument. But you should avoid over-fragmentation as this often produces disjointed and superficial sections. 6. Referencing. You need to provide full references for all factual information, whether that information is in the form of text, tables, charts, graphs or any other format. If you fail to provide a reference for an item of information, that information will be discounted and you will receive no credit for it. The same applies to any relevant theory/models/ frameworks/concepts you use. Indeed, failure to reference can leave you open to an accusation of plagiarism. You need to provide a full list of your references in an appendix to your submission. Information on referencing andavoiding plagiarism was again provided at final year induction. You are required to ensure that you are fully conversant with it. Further support is provided via Salford Business Schools Achievement Coaches and the Study Skills sessions they provide, and via the Universitys Education Development Unit. Details of all of this support are available on the . Conclusions & Recommendations. These should follow logically from and be supported by the substantive factual, analytical and evaluative content of your submission. 8. Presentation of your individual written submission. It is a requirement that your submission (including any tables, charts, graphs etc.) is word-processed, with page numbering and use of appropriate headers/footers. Editorial requirement: font Arial 12, spaces .
