What would have happened if the Persians had defeated the Athenians and Spartans when they invaded Greece? What long-term effects would be noticeable in the history of western civilization? In addition, you need to understand that it did not happen in western history, but try to make a reasonable argument about what might have happened if the history happened that way. You should use your own ideas and articles references to support your argument.
What is the Question asking? Choose a policy and a related practice: i) Context and what they are remember to make the distinction between policy and practice they are not the same thing (eg. Policy of assimilation; practice of forcible removal Stolen Generations); ii) Ongoing impact (how it did and does affect Aboriginal Peoples; iii) A couple of improvements to redress the impact. The challenge is that you only have 2000 words (10 12 references using Harvard Referencing). It is a research essay also so use third person. You have to cover a fair amount and the risk is that you may end up speed dating the issues. I would suggest you choose one policy, connecting it to legislation (for example Protection Act and then one policy of it (eg. Segregation or assimilation) and then a practice (eg. Forcible removal of children or institutionalisation or restriction in education etc). This gives you more scope to drill down and provide analysis (which is what the essay is actually asking you for). Again, when you consider impacts, be careful to include relevant material only, and consider perhaps looking at only a few because there is so much material and you really dont have the space. And perhaps only one or two improvements to redress because you really dont have the space to cover everything (less things but you can go deeper, if this makes sense). Location in this sense means the relative level of disadvantage, disempowerment and marginalisation that Aboriginal Peoples continue to experience. Finally you need to show the relationship between policy practice impact, so be logical and sequence accordingly. Dont forget to proof-read your work and include Indigenous authors and voices it helps to bring an authenticity to your work. Writing Assignment #4 You are required to visit the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (Mia) and write a 2-page paper on the following exhibition: A History of Photography Remix: Selections from the Mia Collection. The exhibition is located in the Harrison Photography Gallery (3rd Floor) at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts – Ask for a map or directions at the front desk, or with one of the docents if you get lost along the way. Here’s a link to the exhibition page at the Mia:https://new.artsmia.org/exhibition/a-history-of-photography-remix-selections-from-the-mia-collection/Many of these photographs will be familiar, although there will certainly be unfamiliar images to discover. All of the photographs in the exhibition are made during the time period we’ve discussed throughout the semester. You can rely on your new expertise in the history of photography to write your paper. When you visit the gallery I am interested in your interpretation of the images. DO NOT write a biographical report about any of the photographers. Instead, you can consider answering some of the following questions/suggestions.Describe how these photographs are similar or different from other photographs you’ve learned about in this class.
Is the photographer’s style similar or different from other photographers we’ve discussed?
Does the presence of color affect your interpretation of the image?
Does the printing size of the photograph have impact on what the image is expressing?
Does it matter if you are unable to recognize what the photographer is making a picture of? Are there examples of abstract photographs?
Are there photographs that relate directly to the photographer, or could be viewed as an attempt at self-portraiture, or communicate something about the photographer?
What do the photographs say about the area and the era in which these photographs were created?
Compare photographs from our textbook or lecture that are similar to photographs in the exhibition, explain why you think they’re similar.
Compare photographs made by a familiar photographer but look different than the photographs you’re familiar with.
You have between now and the end of the semester to visit the Mia and write your paper (the Mia is always closed Mondays). What I look for in grading these papers is a concise train of thought. I suggest working with an outline first, transferring the ideas to a rough draft, and, finally, to a final draft. This paper should be a minimum of two full typed pages (12 font, double spaced Microsoft Word document) in the Writing Assignment #4 Folder. WARNING, the Museum is ALWAYS CLOSED Saturday. Directions are Below: You are responsible for visiting the exhibition on your own and completing the exhibition review paper.
