As always, use proper MLA formatting, in-text citations, and a works cited page. Make sure you are credible on the topic by developing your claims with deep support, but make sure any fairly well-educated reader can follow you. Option 1: Write about a process in your career field using an informative appraoch. Please do not write about getting a job in that field, or a typical day in that field. Many of you already covered that in the comparative essay. Write about one specific procedure. For example, in nursing you might write about how a patient is tended to in an emergency room, including all the people seen from entry to discharge, and why they see each one. This is a narrow topic, so you’ll need depth and details on each part. It won’t be enough to say “The admitting nurse “sees if they’re OK.” You might use Anatomy of a Joke as a reference, swapping the patient for the joke and the writers for the physicians and staff. Or for computer majors, you might write about how a home computer talks to another home computer on the other side of the world. What’s involved between the modem, the ISP, the different servers and micro phone calls that bounce the signal across the globe, where encryption fits in, etc. Art majors might write about how auditions are run for a play, or how to apply a certain type of facial makeup. Students heading into sports therapy might write about how to set weight and strength goals for a team with a variety of body types and physical capabilities. Those pursuing criminal justice might explain how bail bonds work, or how physical evidence is handled and cataloged. Most of my examples above are the informative approach, but you may use either. Option 2: Write about a process involving a hobby, sport, or form of entertainment you enjoy. This will most likely be in a directive approach, but either is fine. When revising ask yourself if someone could follow your steps with no outside help and complete the task. A good way to test this is have someone read your essay and pantomime or draw out what they think they should be doing at each paragraph. Assessment Criteria: Sentence-level competence with standard academic English (grammar, mechanics, style, and avoiding affectation); focused paragraphs that have one clear role each (you deal with one thing at a time, and only deal with something once); a document-wide coherent organization (all the things connect, reinforce your main goal, and come at the reader in a sequence that is not confusing); the common elements of process writing as mentioned in our course materials and above; correct MLA formatting.

MUSIC LISTENING PAPER In previous semesters this has been known as a TERM Paper. This semester we are going to try something new. This will be a “creative writing” assignment based on one of the pieces listed below. You are to choose one of the listed pieces (each are significant works among the classical canon), listen to it multiple times, and write 2-3 pages, 12 font Double space (not 2,000-3,000 word count) on what types of visual imagery your imagination can manifest. This paper must be written in the first-person – in other words, you are the subject. Classical music (being more “methodical” than popular music) has a tendency to be more abstract. One problem we have as listeners is that unlike nearly all other art forms, the part that we are to play is not inherent to the composition. We are often left to our own devices as to what a particular piece of music is about and what it means. Music is supposed to stimulate the imagination. I am therefore going to allow each of you to explore your creativity through the aural, mental, and intellectual stimulation of one of the pieces below. This is a creative writing assignment, grades will be based on how well you tie the music into your visual imagery.

So add more, go more in-depth with the description of the theory- add some critique, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the theory? add more to the analysis- be clear and specific when discussing how it fits the interview, and also note if there any aspects of the interview that do NOT fit with the theory and why- what other theories might fill those gaps?
