This essay is a required part of your portfolio, thus it is due with the portfolio on December 1st.
Assignment: This semester, weve studied the way various rhetors use the rhetorical situation in different genres to facilitate their purpose and convey a specific message to a specific audience. In recent weeks, youve mapped out your identity positions and youve made connections between these positions and your position on your selected theme; youve considered difficult questions regarding your critical thinking on these positions and your role as an active/passive consumer of media. For this assignment, you will bring together your learning, critical thinking, media consumption and your previous writings to write an essay discussing your own critical thinking in relation to your chosen theme this semester.
Method: To write this essay, you will want to review your media journal, reread your short essays, and consider carefully the questions below. You will then write a 5-page, MLA-formatted paper in which you take Bart Millars final words in his TEDxYouth Talk Critical Thinking: Does it Matter, that critical thinking is a process thats never ending and respond to this idea, either agreeing or disagreeing with Millar, by analyzing your own thinking on your theme through the previous weeks of this semester. Your essay must demonstrate critical consideration of the contents of your media journal and your short essays and discuss changes you see in your own thinking on your theme. Your essay must also demonstrate critical thinking about how related identity positions continue to influence your thinking on the theme or how your altered thinking on the theme changes your thinking about your related identity positions.
