Your case study will be graded using the following criteria:
(20 points) Writer clearly identified the ethical dilemma(s) including conflicting factors, dimensions, and variables included in the professional dilemma. The dilemma was described in relationship to ethical standards, laws, and professional ideas or aspirations. W
(20 points) Writer proposed the action it would take including having:
o clearly articulated professional interventions
o persuasive justification for proposed action
o a description of the professionally recognized decision-making model or process used to arrive at decisions.
(15 points) Writer cited appropriate sections of ethical guidelines considered in rendering their arguments. In addition, writer provided a clear rationale regarding selected sections of the ethical guidelines cited.
(15 points) The steps of the writer’s decision-making model were clearly followed and skillfully applied to the case.
(20 points) Writer presented a thorough yet concise paper addressing details of the case and
o the case study included proper citation of sources throughout the paper and in the reference list
o the case study paper was well organized and written, and information was presented clearly and concisely.
(10 points) The writer cited appropriate scholarly literature relevant to solving the ethical dilemma. Case:
Aisha is 43-year-old African American woman who began treatment her divorce. She has been in treatment for the past 4 years. Aishas presenting problems include suicidal ideation due to her depressive mood. Aisha has a young son named Josh, who is also in treatment because she fears that her depressive spells have negatively impacted her son. Josh struggles in school with behavioral problems and has poor peer relationships. Aisha is a single mother and often struggles to make ends meet financially. Aisha also struggles with mental resources available to raise her son and attend to all his needs, such as consistently getting him to school and therapy sessions on time. Over the course of time, Aishas therapist (YOU) realized that she exhibits bipolar criteria. During a depressive episode, Aisha made a failed suicide attempt. When YOU (her therapist) inquired about her motive behind her suicide attempt, Aisha reported that she felt as if her son would be better off without her. She reported that she feels that she cannot do anything right and was not worthy of the time and love of others.
Overtime Aisha recovered from her depressive mood and has a more positive outlook on life despite having the same challenges financially. Aisha is currently seeing a physician on a regular basis. She expressed to her physician and interest in losing weight, and as a result her physician prescribed to Aisha a weight-loss pill that contains amphetamines. Aishas therapist assumes that her physician is unware of her mental health condition, otherwise he might not have prescribed amphetamines which is known to worsen psychosis (unusual thoughts or behavior), especially in patients known to have a history of depression, mental illness, or bipolar disorder.
After four years of therapy, Aisha has communicated to you that she would like to stop treatment. As her therapist, you have concerns about her safety and the safety of her son. Detail what you feel would be the best ethical course of action to address the concerns involving your patient. Criteria
– Think of the case of Aisha a current case, in which you need to determine how to handle the dilemmas that arise throughout the time she is in your care.
– Include how your concerns and actions are influenced by the Principles of Good Decision Making? Explain how.
– Make sure you clearly identify the ethical issues in the case and detail how you ethically address them.
o What steps would you take in order to address?
o With whom do you need to communicate with?
o Is there a need for a safety plan?
o Is there opportunity to provide psycho education, and if so, what information would you share?
