You can feel free to use power, or nature for the theme. This is a broad topic so you will need to narrow the focus to something that can be covered adequately in a few pages. this will mean going beyond a general overview, of both plays to make a specific, clear point about one aspect of each text. You should develop a clear argument, support it throughout the paper, use a summary only to explain and support your analysis, and write a well-structured paper.
The most well known of President Trumps campaign pledges was to construct a wall on the southern border of the United States. This because a rallying cry at Trumps rallies (Build that wall! Build that wall!), but polls indicate that most Americans do not favor the construction of a literal wall. The idea has also not been enthusiastically embraced within the halls of Congress. However, President Trump signed an executive order that would begin construction of a wall, but construction of a thousand foot long concrete fortification would require Congressional approval (and funding!). The debate in Congress will likely center on three questions: 1) Would a border wall be effective in curtailing illegal immigration?, 2) Is reducing illegal immigration a desirable policy goal, and 3) How will we pay for the wall?
It can be difficult to really get a sense of what building a wall of this size would entail. The following article breaks down the estimated costs, the magnitude of the materials that would be required, and the logistical hurdles of the construction project. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/02/11/trumps-dubious-claim-that-his-border-wall-would-cost-8-billion/?utm_term=.87a8a3c3aeedThe following article is a Q&A on how the wall would work and whether or not it would effectively reduce illegal immigration. Consider it a starting point as you look for your own information: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38755757The second article address to what extent illegal immigration is actually a problem for the United States in the first place. It contains several articles from commentators debating the issue: http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2015/09/03/is-immigration-really-a-problem-in-the-us This last article address one proposed plan to pay for the wall. President Trump has consistently stated that Mexico will pay for the wall, but this claim has been viewed with great skepticism from across the political spectrum. Mexican officials have repeatedly stated that they will not pay for the wall and the Mexican president recently canceled a trip to Washington D.C. in response to Trumps comments. Recently, Trump suggested that the wall would be paid for via a 20% tariff (import tax) placed on Mexican imports. Many economists fear this would ignite a trade war and argue that tariffs dont work and that the cost is passed on to American consumers in the form of higher prices. The following article discusses a well-known trade war from the 1960s, the so called Cognac-Chicken War between the United States and western Europe. http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1992-11-06/news/1992311204_1_chicken-war-trade-war-tariffs Read all of these articles, but focus your position paper on ONE topic. Would the wall be effective, should we use tariffs to pay for it, or should we even be trying to prevent illegal immigration at all? You could go other directions as well, but whatever you do be sure to focus your paper on a singular position.Students will write a 400, not to exceed 450, word position paper over the work assigned by the instructor. The bibliography and heading do not count towards the required word count. The paper must be written in MLA format, double spaced, and include a bibliography if outside sources are used. Students are expected to utilize proper grammar and syntax.
Most likely, you will have several points to make about this passage: work on building a thesis that ties these points together in a coherent statement. Support your points with examples and quotations from the text. Although to prepare you should do a line by line explication, avoid structuring your essay this way: build your essay around the main idea(s) you wish to bring out about the passage. Format: At the beginning of the essay, retype the paragraph as a single-spaced, indented quotation. A separate title page is not necessary, but a good titleone that indicates the main point of your essayis. Include your name, my name, course number, and date. Include a Works Cited Page in MLA style for your source for the story, our textbook.Kennedy, X. NOTE: Topic 1: Vargas Case StudyBob & Elizabeth Vargas have been married for 10 years. They have two children, Frank (8) and Heidi (6). Bob teaches high school PE & coaches football, wrestling, & baseball. Elizabeth recently quit her job where she was an attorney in a law firm that specializes in Family Law. She enjoyed her work, had a passion for adoption cases, but decided to stay home for a few years while the kids were young. Elizabeth believes that Frank might have ADHD. She complains that he cannot sit still, does not listen, is forgetful, and is always getting hurt. She believes that much of these injuries are due to Franks impulsivity. Elizabeth suggests you talk to Franks teachers who have noticed that he has trouble waiting his turn, will often blurt our answers without raising his hand, and frequently loses things. Elizabeth acknowledges that Frank has always been an active child, but believes these behaviors, including picking on his little sister, are getting worse. Bob seems to be amused by these anecdotes and accuses Elizabeth of overreacting, stating that, Boys will be boys, Bob suggests you talk to his parents, both retired teachers, who agree with him and dont think yheres anything wrong with Frankie. You notice Heidi sitting close to Elizabeth, playing on her mothers cell phone. She glances up occasionally when her brother approaches, but is otherwise engrossed with the game. Frankie began the meeting sitting between his parents, but noticed Legos in the corner and was immediately attracted to them. He interrupts several times to share stories about his teacher, classmates, and his grandparents, despite numerous reprimands from his mother. After a few minutes, Frank asks to use his Dads phone (in a hurry, Bob had left it in the car), wanders around the office, loooks out the window and comments on a squirrel, then grabs the phone from his sister who, of course, protests. After Elizabeth had quieted the commotion, you question any recent changes. Bob and Elizabeth both acknowledge an increase in martial tension and admit to having several arguments a week, some in front of the children. Bob blames Elizabeth for being too high-strung and says she just needs to relax. Elizabeth says she is unable to relax, fearing Frankie will end up damaging things or hurting himself or Heidi. She says that if Frankie would be able to control his behaviors, their marriage would improve dramatically. This, they report, is the reason for seeking therapy for Frankie.
Operationally, we often most concerned with water does when it reaches the solid earth, both on the surface and in the sub-surface. Explain the relationship between the saturated zone, the water table, a ground water well and the cone of depression, all within the sub-surface.
The food chain is a valuable concept in biogeography. Give an example of a specific food chain, labeling the various levels of the food chain. After looking at characteristics of food chains, explain how a geographers approach to the study of organisms might be different than biologists study of organisms; what would each try to emphasize more than the other? What exactly is a biome? Compare/contrast the concept of the biome with that of the zoogeographic region. Compare/contrast the floral characteristics of 2 of the following biomes: Desert, Tundra, Midlatitude Grassland and Boreal Forest.
Theorize the difference in soil development in adjoining soils developed on forested, sloped area versus a grassed flat area. What are the soil-forming factors? Explain the importance of the nature of the parent material to soil formation and type. Then, cite at least 2 examples in which the influence of parent materials might be outweighed by other soil-forming factors. Explain the struggle between the internal and external processes in shaping the Earths surface. What are the different ways that the surface of the Earth is changed over time?
Describe the general sequence of events in continental drift since the time of 5 separate continents 450 million years ago. What is the difference between the older continental drift theory by Wegener and the more recent plate tectonic theory? Plate tectonics theory explains many seemingly unrelated phenomena. Explain how the patterns of volcanoes and earthquakes related to plate tectonics. Explain several pieces of evidence that combine to make the theory of plate tectonics the one that is generally accepted.
Provide a reason why some scientists believe the Pleistocene is over and a reason why other scientists believe we are now in an interglacial stage. Some believe, for example, that since areas of pack ice and glacial ice still exist we are still in an ice age. Others, on the other hand, seeing the rapid retreat of ice and snow pack in many areas, believes that this period of glaciation has ended. So, using some other justifications, why do we see some differences in interpretation? Is there some scientific data available that can support both sides view? If so, provide it. Why hasnt this controversy been solved? What impact does this division of views have on the public policies that are enacted by state, national and international bodies?
