WatchFor this week’s document response, you’ll be watching a documentary instead of reading or watching a primary source.

This video is a segment from a landmark civil rights documentary that was aired on PBS, and it’s about 55 minutes long. Eyes on the Prize: Fighting Back, 1957-1962: States rights loyalists and federal authorities collide in the 1957 battle to integrate Little Rocks Central High School, and again in James Merediths 1962 challenge to segregation at the University of Mississippi. Both times, a Southern governor squares off with a U.S. president, violence eruptsand integration is carried out.
Step 2: WritePay attention to the strategy involved in fighting for civil rights. In each case, what did individuals or groups do to try to make their efforts effective? What were the challenges they faced that they had to overcome? What strategies did they use to overcome?
How did groups of people and communities work together to support the civil rights struggle?
What individual acts of courage made these efforts possible?
How did this change your view of the civil rights movement, or support things you knew already?
Remember to use specific examples from the film that you watch to support your responses. Without specific examples, you will not receive credit for this response.

Important note: If the You Tube embeds don’t work, these videos are also available through the LACC Library. Go to the Library website, click “Search Films/Videos” (on the right side). If you’re on campus, at this point a login window will pop up. Log on using the same user name and password as you use for library computers. Search “Eyes on the Prize” and select the appropriate title from the series – make sure you are watching either Awakenings or Fighting Back, as there are several videos in the series.

Explain how Chaucers portrayal of the Wife of Bath supports the long tradition of misogynistic or anti-feminist literature that presents women as morally corrupt and lustful.

There has to be a central argument, should be an argument that can be disagreed with, one that takes a position and stakes a central claim.PLEASE USE THE TEXT (QUOTES) as much as you can. This will really support the idea.
Think about how does the passage you quote support the main argument? How do the details add up to the whole? There has to be in total of 5 secondary sources (scholarly research). The text itself and the translation cannot be considered as secondary sources. Those are primary.

For this discussion, I’d like you to think about race and the suburbs of the 1950s. As you read, the suburbs were created after World War II, so they are an invention of the late 1940s and 1950s. Recently, journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote about his life experience as an African American as one of being shut out from a dream of America that looks very much like the 1950s suburbs. Check out the excerpt below:
I have seen that dream all my life. It is perfect houses with nice lawns. It is Memorial Day cookouts, block associations, and driveways. The Dream is treehouses and the Cub Scouts. The Dream smells like peppermint but tastes like strawberry shortcake. And for so long I have wanted to escape into the Dream, to fold my country over my head like a blanket. But this has never been an option because the Dream rests on our backs, the bedding made from our bodies….

Fear ruled everything around me, and I knew, as all black people do, that this fear was connected to the Dream out there, to the unworried boys, to pie and pot roast, to the white fences and green lawns nightly beamed into our television sets.

Ta-Nehisi Coates, Between the World and Me, Random House Publishing Group, Kindle Edition, p. 11; 29.
In this discussion, please think about:
What’s the evidence in our reading that would support Coates’ idea that the suburbs intentionally created two different Americas: one for white people, and one for everybody else?
Can you think of counter-examples from the reading, where it seems like 1950s America did include people of color in its American Dream?
Where do you think we are now? Do you relate to what Coates’ is saying, or do you have a different experience? Do you feel like you have access to a “picket fence” suburban America? Why or why not? Use specific examples to support your ideas.Remember to use an example from the textbook reading, and cite the page number! Please post one initial post. How far has there been a new cold war in the relations between Russia and the West since 2008?

The introduction must include a definition of The Cold War and its characteristics and mention that although there has been a confrontation between Russia and the west in Ukraine and The Middle East since 2008 but the current situation is by no means a new cold war And then start my main argument which is there is no new cold war between them, because the current confrontation lacks the following: Paragraph 1- Bipolar structure which has two big blocks Paragraph 2- military balance and arms race Paragraph 3- ideology which was the core of the cold war Conclusion Use academic sources for referencing (up to 14) for example, articles in International Affairs
