Moreover, your topic should be highly debatable and argumentative in nature. Regardless of the topic you select to write on, you will choose a distinct side and argue for or against it, but you will also research the other side, present, and challenge it. This creates a complete argument. You will use and incorporate a working bibliography (secondary sources) in your paper, and the paper should be structured in formal essay style.

Write a one-page paper (using Microsoft Word, double-spaced, 12 font) describing what you have learned in the textbook and from lectures about photography at the time this picture was created.

Include information about the technological state of photography at this time and the social implications of the medium. Why is there a smudge in the middle of the image? Was this photographer considered an inventor of the medium? An early practitioner? You must explain why, or why not? Regardless of how you answer this assignment you must guess why the man in the photograph looks the way he does (his expression) to receive full credit.
