What was the impact of the parents’ behaviors on other family members and the long-term effects on each of the parties?

Assignment 2: Weekly Assignment: Do the Crime, Do the Time

Officer Johnson has been closely studying the family we have been following throughout this course. He mentioned in his report that Rob and Junior were managing the drug-based business. Mary was managing prostitution. Junior was working with some of his friends on a new capper. One of Junior’s friends was stealing computers from his employer and selling them on the Internet. Officer Johnson is also helping Lucy cope with sexual assault by her father, Rob. She was forced by her parents to get involved in prostitution. She is a minor and a victim of child abuse.

Having reached the conclusion of this course, you have seen how a normal Centervale family became involved in criminal activity. Through the previous modules, you have seen how the criminal element is transferred from the parents to the children and the affect this has on various lives in the family unit. You will now evaluate both sides of the issues in this case; from the prosecution’s perspective and defense’s perspective taking the following into account:

  • Family pressure to act a certain way for acceptance
  • Possible defenses that could be given
  • Sentencing possibilities for the various crimes you have studied

Please consider how the events of this Centervale story play out from the standpoint of the prosecution and the defense. You are to review all modules to complete this discussion.

Submission Details:

By Sunday, November 1, 2015, in a minimum of 300 words, post your responses to the following to the Discussion Area:

  • What were the considerations for the family to enter a life of crime?
  • How did involvement in crime affect interactions among the members of the family?
  • What was the impact of the parents’ behaviors on other family members and the long-term effects on each of the parties?
  • What are the various defenses that might be raised for Rob, Mary, and Junior and why?
  • What are the potential sentencing options for the three members of the family, Rob, Mary, and Junior, and why are these sentences justifiable?
  • Critically analyze the working of the American criminal justice system and suggest ways to improve it so that scenarios as given in this course can be prevented.

By Wednesday, November 4, 2015, respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. Consider commenting on the family’s considerations for entering crime and how it affects their interactions as a unit. Comment on the considerations for potential sentencing and decipher why these sentences are justifiable. Comment on the suggested recommendations for improvements in the American criminal justice system.

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Analysis of Technology, Culture and Victims in Crime

Jamal, a straight A junior in High School, was recently involved in a physical fight with another student in the corridor of the school. Juan is a recovering alcoholic who has absenteeism issues and poor grades. Although Juan was held back in sixth grade, and struggles with social situations, he has never been involved in any disciplinary action at school. However, Jamal recently completed 90 hours of community service after being convicted of disorderly conduct and simple assault from an unrelated incident.

The school video recordings show Jamal instigating the fight, yet student witnesses reported to school officials and law enforcement that Juan was the instigator. During the investigation, a drug dog alerted law enforcement to the possibility that a controlled substance was present in Juan’s locker. When confronted by law enforcement, Juan claimed Jamal planted the drugs in Juan’s locker to hide Jamal’s own habit. Regardless, Juan was placed under arrest. An external security camera recorded a verbal altercation between law enforcement and a group of young adults who felt Juan’s arrest was racially motivated.

Tasks:

You are the District Attorney’s Investigator and have been asked to evaluate this situation as pursuant to Juan’s upcoming trial. Compose a 3-6 page paper to address the following:

  1. Identify, define, examine, and discuss the crimes potentially committed by Juan and Jamal.
  2. Identify the victim(s) in this scenario. Outline the rights of the victim(s) as they related to social responsibility.
  3. Compare and contrast the legal issues that could arise for the police department in this scenario.
  4. Analyze how societal diversity might have played a role in this case. Discuss ethical practices utilized by law enforcement that help them to maintain their objectivity throughout their investigation of this incident, Jamal and Juan’s backgrounds, and the underlying interests of social order.
  5. Evaluate the use of technology, such as video tape recordings, as demonstrative evidence in the courtroom.

Compile your paper, including all information researched, and prepare a submission paper in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • This paper is to be in APA format with a cover sheet and reference page at the end.
  • The length of the paper is to be a minimum of three pages and no more than five pages. This length does not include your cover or reference sheets.
  • Remember that APA font is Times New Roman, font size 12.

Submission Details:

  • Save the final paper as M5_A1_Lastname_Firstname.doc.
  • By Monday, November 2, 2015, submit your final paper to the M5: Assignment 1 Dropbox.

Sampling Strategy and Sample Size for a Qualitative Research Plan

As you continue to work on your qualitative research plan, you will have to address the size and diversity of your sample population. Different kinds of studies require different sample sizes, and you should select a size that will be most appropriate for your topic and approach.

To prepare for this Application:

Review the Chapter 5 readings in Qualitative Research and Evaluation Methods for this week.

Consider the following questions:

From which sampling strategy would your study benefit? What factors contribute to this decision?

What sample size would you use for the study that you are planning? What factors contribute to this decision?

How would you justify using that particular sampling strategy and sample size? What Resources can you cite to support your justification?

The assignment:

Craft a 5-page paper in which you do the following:

Recommend and justify a sampling strategy and sample size for your qualitative research plan. Include any references to the literature, where appropriate.

Select law enforcement agency at the state or local level in which you are interested and argue in what ways the agency could improve its emergency management process.

The student will select a local or state law enforcement or other state or local government organization concerned with emergency management and planning, and research, analyze and critique on the organization’s emergency management and planning processes. The focus of the analysis is to examine the various emergency management planning components: Mitigation; Preparedness; Response; and Recovery, as well as how the organization uses Unity of Command and NIMS principles in its emergency management practices.

Because federal agencies are generally responsible for supporting state and local agencies involved in emergency management, they should not be used for this assignment. In addition, military emergency planning organizations should not be used for this assignment as a are generally more self-reliant and not involved in community emergency management practices.

The research should include web search, periodicals, publications and interviews of personnel involved with the Emergency Management planning of the organization and personal observations when possible. Students should view the information obtained with the purpose of critiquing the organization’s fulfillment of the components suggested by the text and other sources. Explain the pros and a con of the organization’s emergency management process. The analysis could look at whether the agency has anticipated emergencies that law enforcement will be responsible for. Perform analysis of how the agency has coordinated with other local state and federal agencies. Describe the plans that have been developed for handling emergencies. Evaluate any exercises that test the plans and propose ways in which the organization may improve their emergency management planning and response.

The purposes in conducting and writing this study are to improve your ability to synthesize, analyze, and evaluate information carefully and objectively, solve problems effectively, present your ideas in clear written form directed to a specific audience, in this case, your class.

To complete this project, you should:

  1. Select law enforcement agency at the state or local level in which you are interested.
  2. Gather materials from the agency, such as planning reports and practical exercise reports and other resources that may be available.
  3. Describe the procedures you will use to conduct your study and place in a methodology section.
  4. Evaluate the structure, practice, and procedures of the organization.
  5. Compose the results of your study.
  6. Formulate conclusions about your findings, including the positive and negative aspects you discovered.
  7. Argue in what ways the agency could improve its emergency management process.

Your paper must include:

  1. A cover page
  2. Abstract
  3. Introduction
  4. Methodology section
  5. Discussion
  6. Reference page
  7. Appendices which may include a summary of your interview(s) and organization charts of your agency and your section

The text of this paper should be at least 2,000 words or eight pages typewritten or computer-generated, not counting the cover page, reference pages, and appendices. The paper shall be double spaced in either Courier or Times New Roman, 12 font. You must illustrate the terminology and the concepts used in the section of the agency you studied and demonstrate that you can apply these concepts.   You must demonstrate that you can define, explain, synthesize, analyze, and evaluate the information acquired. You must correctly use APA format in source citation both in the body of the paper and in the reference page.

Evaluate at least two work motivation theories and how they can be applied in order to improve employee recruitment and retention at JC’s Casino.

Read the following scenario:

You are an independent consultant who has recently been hired by JC’s Casino to help improve retention issues concerning the dealers and housekeepers. Most of the dealers have been leaving the casino to work at other casinos in the area, even though JC’s Casino pays better than their local competition. On several exit interviews, many of the dealers have cited the pit boss, Joe, as being “toxic, overbearing, evil, and incompetent.” Joe is the casino owner’s step-son and the HR director, Tom Sneed, is afraid to confront the owner.

Among the housekeeping staff, there has been an above normal rate of absenteeism and high turnover of rooms. Many of the managers who work in accounting, payroll, and other departments have had to ask their full-time employees to help cover for housekeeping by cleaning rooms periodically. Because of this problem, the hotel has had to adjust their check in times from 3 p.m. (the industry standard) to 6 p.m. Customers have arrived earlier and the hotel has had to accommodate them by creating a room to hold luggage. They have also had to hire staff to man the luggage room.

The director of housekeeping, Andrew Keehn, has been working hard to add more staff but he states “good help is hard to find.” The housekeeper’s current hourly wage is comparable to other casinos in the area but because of the staffing shortage, the housekeepers have to clean more rooms per day than their counterparts. The casino owner only knows that there are some issues with keeping the dealers and that some customers were upset because they had to wait to check in. You have been hired for a quick fix and your suggestions were needed yesterday.

Write a 1,400- to 1,700-word paper in which you identify each issue and make recommendations to JC, the casino president, on how to improve overall retention. What the scenario does not provide, you can create. Be sure to include the following in your assessment:

  • Evaluate at least two work motivation theories and how they can be applied in order to improve employee recruitment and retention at JC’s Casino.
  • Examine possible occupational stressors that are negatively influencing recruitment and retention. What improvements would you suggest to alleviate these stressors?
  • Examine the role of job satisfaction and its influence on retention at the casino. Provide recommendations for improving job satisfaction of the employees and how that can play a part in successfully improving retention.
  • Discuss counterproductive employee behavior occurring at the casino. What suggestions would you make to reduce the counterproductive behavior and increase productive employee behavior?

Compare the historical trends related to people with disabilities.

Assignment 2: LASA 1—Analysis of Historical, Legal, and Ethical Issues

As someone knowledgeable about research on children with exceptionalities, you have been given the task of presenting a report to the court on your arguments for and against people with intellectual disabilities raising children.

Do the following:

  • Launch the online library (under Academic Resources).
  • Select Find Videos.
  • Select Filmakers Library Online.
  • In the search box, type “is love enough” and click Go.
  • The first result should be Is Love Enough?directed by Tom Puchniak. Review this video.

Analyze the historical, legal, and ethical issues in the video. Make sure you include the following in your analysis (in an order that flows well in your paper):

  • Compare the historical trends related to people with disabilities. How would outcomes be different fifty years ago for the people in the movie?
    • Compare the differences from about ten years ago when the movie was produced to today.
    • Explain how far we have come and what still needs to be addressed (such as terminology, acceptance, and support).
  • Explain how laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the IDEA influence these decisions.
  • Identify the ethical principles that might apply to the situation. Consider the professional ethics codes, including the following:
  • Synthesize your research and create two arguments: one for and one against parents with intellectual disabilities raising children. Consider the perspectives of the parents as well as the children. Use evidence and examples from research, utilizing your assigned readings, and at least two peer-reviewed articles on this topic to support your argument.
  • Given what you learned in the video, your assigned readings, and research you found, recommend supports or interventions for the following:
    • The family
    • Within the community for the family and child
    • The school
  • Although this video focused on those with intellectual disabilities, generalize the issues to other exceptionalities.
  • Conclude your paper with a review of current thinking for and against people with exceptionalities raising children, based on the sources used.

Write a 7–9-page paper (not counting the title page, abstract, or reference page) in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title page, abstract, and reference page also in APA forma

Project Deliverable 4: Infrastructure and Security

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: an infrastructure document and a revised Gantt chart or project plan. You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment for which it is written. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

The last section of the project plan will present the infrastructure in accordance with the parameters set forth at the outset of the project. The network solution that is chosen should support the conceived information system and allow for scalability. The network infrastructure will support organizational operations; therefore, a pictorial view of workstations, servers, routers, bridges, gateways, and access points should be used. In addition, access paths for Internet access should be depicted. A narrative should be included to explain all the nodes of the network and the rationale for the design. Lastly, using the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) Triangle, define the organizational security policy. CIA is a widely used benchmark for evaluation of information systems security.

Section 1: Infrastructure Document

  1. Write a five to ten (5-10) page infrastructure document in which you:
    1. Design a logical and physical topographical layout of the planned network through the use of graphical tools in Microsoft Word or Visio, or an open source alternative such as Dia. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
    2. Illustrate the possible placement of servers including access paths to the Internet and firewalls. Note: Facility limitations, workstations, printers, routers, switches, bridges and access points should be considered in the illustration.
    3. Explain the rationale for the logical and physical topographical layout of the planned network.
    4. Create a comprehensive security policy for the company that will:
  1. Protect the company infrastructure and assets by applying the principals of CIA. Note: CIA is a widely used benchmark for evaluation of information systems security, focusing on the three core goals of confidentiality, integrity and availability of information.
  2. Address ethical aspects related to employee behavior, contractors, password usage, and access to networked resources and information.
