Explain the kind of reasoning you think is the best way to approach this question, and how that reasoning supports the position you think is strongest.

for Prof.goodman

verview

In the Week One Assignment, you formulated a concrete ethical question, took a position on that topic, and identified a reason supporting and a reason opposing that position. In the Week Three Assignment, you discussed either deontological or utilitarian theory, applied that theory to the question, and raised a relevant objection.

By engaging with the course material, you now have had a chance to refine your thinking and broaden your understanding of the problem by approaching it from the perspective of multiple ethical theories.

In this paper, you will demonstrate what you have learned by writing an essay in which you

  • Present a revised formulation of the ethical question and introduction to the topic.
  • Explain the kind of reasoning you think is the best way to approach this question, and how that reasoning supports the position you think is strongest.
  • Raise an objection, and be able to respond to it.

Instructions

Write an essay that conforms to the requirements below. The paper must be 1500 to 2000 words in length (excluding the title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

The paragraphs of your essay should conform to the following guidelines:

    • Introduction

Your first paragraph should begin with the topic question, suitably revised. It should be focused, concrete, and on a relevant moral problem. You should then introduce the topic in the way described by the Week One instructions, but reflecting the developed understanding and information you have gained about the topic and any necessary refinement of the scope.

Follow this with a thesis statement that states your position, and a brief description of the primary reason(s) supporting your position. (See the handout on thesis statements provided). Finally, provide a brief preview of the overall aim and procedure of your paper.

    • Explanation and Demonstration of Moral Reasoning

This section of the Final Paper will explain and demonstrate what you believe to be the best way of reasoning about the question you have chosen, and showing how that reasoning supports the position you have taken on the question. You might explain the principles, rules, values, virtues, conceptions of purposes and ends, and other general ideas that you find persuasive, and show how they support concrete judgments.

In the course of doing so, you must make reference to at least two of the approaches that we have examined in the course (such as deontological, utilitarian, or virtue-based), and utilize at least one resource off the provided list for each of the two approaches. One of these theories may be the theory you discussed in your Week Three Assignment, but your discussion here should be more refined.

For example, you might find the reasoning associated with Aristotelian virtue ethics to be the most compelling, and reference Aristotle in the process of showing how that reasoning supports a certain conclusion. In the course of this, you could contrast that with a utilitarian approach, referencing Mill for instance.

    • Objection and Response

After explaining the ethical reasoning that supports your position, you should raise an objection and respond to it. An objection articulates a plausible reason why someone might find the argument weak or problematic. You should explain how it brings out this weakness, and do so in a way that would be acceptable to someone who disagrees with your own argument. Then, provide the best response you can to the objection, showing how it does not undermine your position. Your response should not simply restate your original position or argument, but should say something new in support of it.

  • Conclusion

Provide a conclusion that sums up what you presented in the paper and offers some final reflections.

Resource Requirement

You must use at least four scholarly resources. Two of the resources must be drawn from the list of acceptable primary resources on each of the two theories you discuss. For example, if you discuss deontology and virtue ethics, you would need at least one resource under the “Deontology” list and at least one resource under the “Virtue Ethics” list. The other two may be from either the Required or Recommended Resources, or scholarly resources found in the Ashford University Library.

  • The textbook may be cited, but it does not count toward the resource requirement. If you cite the textbook, you will still need to cite at least four more sources that fulfill the requirements stated above.
  • If you need help with finding additional resources, or are unsure about whether a particular resource will count toward the requirement, please contact your instructor.
  • For sources to count toward the resources requirement, they must be cited within the text of your paper and on the reference page. Sources that are listed on the references page, but not cited within the paper, do not count toward fulfilling the resources requirement.

Team Work

Twenty years from now, the typical large business will have half the levels of management and one-third the managers of its counterpart today.

Work will be done by specialists brought together in task forces (teams) that cut across traditional departments. Coordination and control will depend largely on employees’ willingness to discipline themselves—not by Human Resources.

Please write a word paper on the importance of Teams in the Organization.

Explain how (you as a manager) would hire, manage, compensate and motivate teams working under your leadership in order to meet the goals of the organization and Human Resource Management.

The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:

Write between 750 – 1,250 words (approximately 3 – 5 pages) using Microsoft Word in APA style, see example below.
Use font size 12 and 1” margins.
Include cover page and reference page.
At least 80% of your paper must be original content/writing.
No more than 20% of your content/information may come from references.
Use at least three references from outside the course material, one reference must be from EBSCOhost. Text book, lectures, and other materials in the course may be used, but are not counted toward the three reference requirement.

There are 10 questions – Each question has a statement. Your task is to write two responses…one to agree with the statement and another to disagree with the statement. It’s not “pick one or the other”. You have to make a separate argument for each side. One paragraph why you would agree, and one paragraph why you would disagree.

1.Employees should not be permitted to see their personnel files. Allowing them to review the file constrains realistic observations by managers. Accordingly, as long as the information is not used against an employee, these files should be off limits.

2. Job analysis is just another burden placed on organizations through EEO legislation.

3.An organization should follow a promote-from-within policy.

4.Flexible benefits programs are employer inducements to reduce benefits costs. The average employee has neither the ability nor information to make such important choices. Employees should suspect such programs.

5.Investments in career development do not provide an organization a viable return on its investment. It simply raises employees’ expectations, and then, if not fulfilled, cause employees leave. Accordingly, the organization has trained employees for its competitors.

6.Proper selection is a substitute for socialization.

7.Training organizational members how to be coaches and how to empower employees should be a major activity in the next decade.

8.All that is required for successful labor-management relations is common sense, sound business judgment, and good listening skills.

9.Given that the white male is becoming a “minority” in the workplace, they should be afforded affirmative action protection.

10.Globalization has led us to the realization that workers a interchangeable between countries so long as language issues are resolved.

How is the female character gendered?

In this assignment, you will gather data from children’s books as a means of seeing (1) how early gender socialization begins and (2) how gendered images and stereotypes are perpetuated.

For this assignment, you are to find 2 children’s picture/illustrated books (you may use your own books, those bought from a store, viewed online, or borrowed from a library). One book should feature a female protagonist and the second a male protagonist. [Some popular children’s books feature animals and objects as the lead characters in the story. In those cases, the character usually has a gendered name or appearance, so use that as the indicator of gender and be sure to discuss your reasoning for assigning a gender to the character in your paper. Bonus points if you can find a book with an authentically gender-neutral protagonist.]

After you have selected and read each book carefully, address the following questions in 3-5 typed, double-spaced pages (12 point, Times New Roman font or the equivalent):

  1. How is the female character gendered?
  2. How is the male character gendered?
  3. Compare and contrast the gendering between the two protagonists?
  4. What activities do the stories imply that girls are interested in? Boys?
  5. Are there any gender stereotypes that are portrayed in these stories? If so, what are they?
  6. Do any of these characters conform to the active/passive dynamic that we have discussed

    throughout the course?

Finally, comment on your feelings regarding the implications of this gendering in children’s books— What do these children’s books suggest about gender? Do these messages matter? Why or why not?

Depending on the data set that you develop, you may do a one or two-sample test.

Multiple Regression Analysis

In week 8 you are going to submit 2 components; a PowerPoint presentation and an Excel spreadsheet with your calculations. There will be no traditional report in Word, as the intent of this exercise is to demonstrate your ability to calculate and present the data.

For your project:

  • Depending on the data set that you develop, you may do a one or two-sample test. If doing a one sample test, look through recent articles on the Internet for someone else’s claim about the population parameter that you will support or refute.
  • Formulate your informal hypothesis (i.e. what you think is true). For example: “The average number of hours that American teenagers (ages 13 to 16) sleep is less than that for the general population.” State why you think your hypothesis is true. Write your formal null and alternative hypothesis.
  • Using the sampling technique assigned to your data set, describe how data may have been gathered using this technique.
  • Create a frequency distribution table for your sample(s) in Excel. Create a histogram or bar chart, as applicable.
  • Calculate sample mean, median, mode and standard deviation or sample proportion, as applicable, for your sample(s) in Excel.
  • Create a confidence interval for your sample(s).
  • Test your hypothesis.
  • Formulate a conclusion based on your results. State formally and informally.

Show all your calculations and back-up work in an Excel file. Make sure that the Excel file is organized, complete and clear. Do not forget to put the data set you have selected in the first worksheet of your Excel file.

Assemble all of your results and comments in a PowerPoint presentation that includes the following:

  • Title page
  • Introduction – What you are studying and why?
  • Hypothesis – State informally and formally.
  • Method – Using the sampling technique assigned to your data set, describe how the data may have been collected?
  • Results – Graph(s), table(s), descriptive statistics, confidence interval(s), steps for hypothesis-testing – insert graphs and tables from Excel
  • Conclusions – Reject or fail to reject your null hypothesis, state formally and informally.
  • References in APA format.

Submit your course project documents (PowerPoint and Excel spreadsheet).
