Using “Martin Luther King Jr.’s statement regarding injustice and mutuality illustrates the shortcomings of the structural-functional paradigm.

Hi this is a discussion that I have to replay for it is regarding to theories i will put the instructor post and my peers post with their name. I want you to replay to the instructor separately and the peers response all together, please mention their name in the post.

Here are the posts,

1- The instructor post:
“”Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
-Martin Luther King Jr., 16 April 1963, Birmingham, AL

Make sure you tie MLK’s statement to lectures, such as Structural-Functional and Conflict theory.

2- Peers post,
-Mark “Martin Luther King Jr.’s statement regarding injustice and mutuality illustrates the shortcomings of the structural-functional paradigm. The paradigm includes a series of assumptions such as (1) societies strive toward equilibrium; (2) human beings are not created equal but rather everyone gets what he/she deserves and (3) institutions are distinct and therefore should be studied individually. These assumptions were a product of the time during which the theory was introduced and grew in importance. However, structural-functional theory does not account for the social change advocated for in the 1960s by MLK and other activists nor does the theory explain structural contradictions and conflict. Does the structural-functional theory have any applicability today? If so, please provide an example of this applicability”.

-Albert “From my understanding, structural-functional theory sees societies as a complex network that works together in order to obtain stability.

To answer Mohamed’s question, I think part of this theory is applied today.

For example, nowadays most of the people get what he/she deserves. Most likely if you worked hard and got high degrees you will get an excellent job with better life standards.

On the other hand if you did not work as hard as the other you will not be able to get the perfect job.
In some cases this is not true 0, because some people have connections which allow them to get what they want easily without doing any work. It would allow them to get what they want based on their origins.
It is true that there are a lot of thing that shows how unequal our society is, but these things are decreasing, and I think we are much closer to the point of equality than before”.

– Heidi “I agree with Ahmed when he mentioned that some people have good connections that make them obtain better jobs than they deserve. However, I disagree about that we are moving toward equality, because I believe that inequality is caused and maintained by the powerful and majority groups of people in the society. Also, only the people within these groups are benefited from it. So, the minorities are the victims in this area. Therefore, society is an area of conflict. As Gerhard Lenski thinks “Inequality depends on who owns the subsistence technology throughout history — the tools” So, these powerful people are the one who will be controlling the equality in a society. The developments of the societies increase the inequality rate. I think when people were hunters they lived in a more equal society than now, because of the simple lifestyle they had.

Prepare a 2 page paper responding to the case incident questions in a formal report style, either in agreement or to refute the information presented.

Case Incidents: All students must read and be prepared to discuss all assigned case incidents as noted in the syllabus. In addition, every student is assigned a specific case incident reports as noted below. For each report, students are to prepare a 2 page paper responding to the case incident questions in a formal report style, either in agreement or to refute the information presented. That is, not a Q &A format, but a report that addresses the questions raised in the Q&A. Please use references beyond the textbook in support of your answers. These are to be well-written, concise reports with no grammar or spelling errors (5 pt.) and sources noted (5pt.). You should have open and closing sentences and a well-organized paper. The case incident reports are worth a total of 30 points.

Construct an effective argument of your own in which you attempt to persuade an audience about a specific claim.

Advertisement Analysis Assignment
During the second half of the semester, you will be constructing an effective argument of your own in which you attempt to persuade an audience about a specific claim. In this paper and the one that follows it, however, you will be analyzing how others make claims for a specific audience. We are bombarded with messages and commercials everyday. By looking closely at these messages, we gain a deeper understanding of assumptions and perceptions. We also can become more critical thinkers both in our academic and every day life.

For your first assignment, you will be working with an advertisement paying particular attention to the intended audience. In this assignment, you will choose a current (within the last 5 years) advertisement. This can be either print or video. You will then analyze it to determine if the advertisement is successful or not.

Goals:

Objectively analyze the advertisement to determine how it works.
Come to an understanding of who the audience is and how they’re being persuaded.
Analyze for visual rhetoric, rhetorical appeals, and weak claims (use both logical fallacy information in JAC and Schrank’s “The Language of Advertising Claims.” Both will be assigned later).
Create a clear argument about the success of the advertisement (this will be your thesis).

Note: You will determine if the advertisement’s perception of the audience is accurate or not. In this paper, you can be the target audience. If this is the case, you can talk about how and why they tried to appeal to you and people like you. You will need to talk in both generalities (your age, gender, ethnicity, class, etc) and specifics.

Consider the following questions in helping you to shape your response:

What is the ad’s message? Is there an underlying message, too? (What is the subtextual message? How does it connect to larger social/cultural issues?)
Who is the target audience? Again, what evidence can you find? Is the advertisement’s perception of the audience is accurate?
What are the visual appeals that the ad uses?
What rhetorical tactics or appeals (logos, ethos, pathos) are used by the creators of the ads?
How (and how well) do these appeals work to accomplish their desired effects?
How are the features of the target audience affected by the appeals? (“This tactic works well because it taps into the young male audience’s feeling of insecurity and how much they want to imitate this celebrity.”)
Why do you believe this advertisement effectively or ineffectively connects to the audience? Your answer to this question will become your thesis statement.

Evaluative Criteria

In this assignment I will be looking for:

A clear, specific thesis statement that takes a stand on the ad’s effectiveness.
Strong evidence that addresses both the visual and rhetorical persuasiveness of the ad.
Use of rhetorical terms to establish your authority as experienced analyst.
Logical organization of your ideas, including clear paragraph breaks in a 4+ page essay.
Correct use of the academic genre (paragraph structure, tone, MLA conventions)
Please include copies of the advertisement if you’re using print ads or a Works Cited page with URLs if you are using a television advertisement (please make sure that the ads are on YouTube or an easily accessible website).

Identify at least 2 different types of evaluation techniques utilized by companies and identify the purpose of or measure of each technique.

FIRST PAGE
Scenario: You are the Human Resources Specialist whose function within the company is to design and conduct performance appraisals of the different employees. However, recently, there has been concern that the appraisals being conducted are not a true objective measure of the employee, and as such, bonus determination is being adversely affected on some of the employees.

Appraisals of an employees’ job performance are used to provide feedback to the employee as to how well or poorly they are conducting their job requirements. Sometimes, appraisals can be used to determine if the person in the position is properly qualified to complete the tasks and assignments of the position.
Research 2 to 3 Fortune 500 companies and their performance appraisal policies:
Identify at least 2 different types of evaluation techniques utilized by companies and identify the purpose of or measure of each technique.
Describe whether the techniques identified measure employee performance in a subjective manner, and if not, why you have come to that conclusion.
SECOND PAGE (SEPARATE QUESTION)
Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.
Employee training, management development, enhancement of employee abilities and knowledge can all be very expensive to companies. We find that in hard times, many companies forego training programs and opportunities as a way to cut back on expenses. It is important that when developing training programs that the needs be accurately assessed so as not to waste precious resources. Many professions actually require members of the profession to complete so many hours of continuing education to maintain their professional qualifications.
Discuss at least 2 different forms of training
Discuss the benefits of each.
