1. Discuss why financial markets are important to a healthy economy and how they contribute to economic growth.

2. Assume that you recently graduated with a degree in finance and have just reported to work as an investment adviser at the brokerage firm of Smyth Barry & Co. 9. Define Jeffersonian Democracy, and explain Jefferson’s domestic and foreign policies. Discuss the significance of the Louisiana Purchase and how his presidency both defined and contradicted that political philosophy.
10. What was the essential idea behind Jefferson’s imposition of the embargo, and why did it finally fail?  What were the causes of the War of 1812 and why was New England opposed to the War of 1812?  What happened to the Federalist after the War of 1812?
