Provide an advantage and a disadvantage of external selection for this position and an advantage and a disadvantage of internal selection.

Scenario: You are currently employed by a national Auto Parts retail chain. You started out as a customer service representative and have moved your way up through the ranks to store manager. Recently your company has indicated that they wish to promote you to District Manager, however, they want you to find your replacement as Store Manager.

Recruiting for labor, whether it is to expand operations or to replace outgoing personnel requires and understanding of the needs of the business and the skills necessary to perform the tasks at hand. When we seek to expand current operations we typically look outside or to new labor. However, when we are looking to replace or promote, we sometimes look internally.

Research different 2 different large, international companies and address the following issues:

Provide 3 different criteria in selecting personnel when filling labor needs and their importance in the selection process.
Provide an advantage and a disadvantage of external selection for this position and an advantage and a disadvantage of internal selection

01 F15 BUS-F301 Case Study 1 – Description and Requirements 2/3

Richmond Coffee, Inc. was founded by Gail McCornell and his wife in 2010 in Richmond, Indiana. Due to the lack of the related expertise, the company has not been using much financial planning for its investment needs. Therefore, RC is currently undergoing some hard times resulted in some severe cash flow problems. In addition to losing sales, RC is also falling short of profit to pay salaries to the founders. So, there is an urgent need for the company to prepare a financial plan for the next year to cope with the anticipated investment requirements.

Richmond Coffee, Inc. 2015 Balance Sheet Assets Liabilities and Equity Current assets Current liabilities Cash $282,000 Accounts payable $265,000 Accounts receivable 342,000 Notes payable 168,000 Inventory 650,000 Total current liabilities $433,000 Total current assets $1,274,000 Long-term debt $2,080,000 Fixed assets Net plant and equipment $2,854,000 Shareholder equity Common stock $450,000 Retained earnings 1,165,000 Total equity $1,615,000 Total assets $4,128,000 Total liabilities and equity $4,128,000

RC is looking forward to a growth rate of 14 percent in 2016 (i.e. its sales is expected to increase by 14%). The firm has decided to hire you as a financial consultant to fix all the cash flow problems for them. 1. You are expected to calculate the internal growth rate and sustainable growth rate for RC, and explain to the founders what these numbers mean. (20 points) 2. RC is currently operating at full (100%) capacity. Gail McCornell, one of the founders of the company, would like you to advise them on what amount of external financing will be needed (EFN) for 2016 and whether RC’s sales can rise at this particular rate of growth?

01 F15 BUS-F301 Case Study 1 – Description and Requirements 3/3

Please be reminded to include the necessary assumptions, pro forma income statement and pro forma balance sheet in your answer in addition to other workings. (50 points) 3. RC’s fixed assets can only be acquired in multiples of $1,500,000 (i.e. adding a new product line will call for an additional investment of $1,500,000 in new equipment) once RC has reached its full operating capacity. Gail is eager to know what the new external financing needed (EFN) should be as the firm is now already operating at its full capacity. In addition, he also asks you to estimate the new level of capacity utilization of the fixed assets for RD in next year when the new production line has been implemented. Please be reminded to include the new pro forma income statement and pro forma balance sheet in your answer in addition to other workings. (50 points) 4. Gail is interested in knowing as well how the firm’s ROE will change from 2015 to 2016 according to the projected growth rate (subject to the condition that the firm can only acquire the required fixed assets in multiples of $1,500,000, the owners are not going to put in more capital and the firm’s payout ratio remains at the 2015 level). You are expected to do a Du Pont analysis comparison between the two years. For the Du Pont analysis, you must include both the calculations and the explanations. (30 points)

Important Reminder “If you choose to turn in a late case study, you will lose 25% of the points for each day pastdue for that case study. Penalty will be given immediately after the deadline. As I need to return the case studies and post the answers to the case studies, no case study will be accepted for grading after 4 days past-due” – 4-day penalty rule. It is your own responsibility to make sure that you do turn in the case studies and submit the right case study files when you turn them in. You are required to save frequently at least one backup copy of your case studies before you submit them. Past-due submission because of computer crash, misplacing of your memory stick (jump drive) or failing to submit the correct file by the deadline will be penalized according to the above-mentioned 4-day penalty rule. After you have made your submission of the individual case studies, you should see a short message immediately under Assignments telling whether you have submitted your work successfully or not. It is your responsibility to make sure that you have turned in your work files successfully before you leave the Assignments webpage. If you fail to do so, your subsequent submission will be subject to the 4-day penalty rule mentioned above.

MINICASE
Planning for Growth at S&S Air

After Chris completed the ratio analysis for S&S Air (see Chapter 3), Mark and Todd approached him about planning for next year’s sales. The company had historically used little planning for investment needs. As a result, the company experienced some challenging times because of cash flow problems. The lack of planning resulted in missed sales, as well as periods when Mark and Todd were unable to draw salaries. To this end, they would like Chris to prepare a financial plan for the next year so the company can begin to address any outside investment requirements. The income statement and balance sheet are shown here:
QUESTIONS

Calculate the internal growth rate and sustainable growth rate for S&S Air. What do these numbers mean?

S&S Air is planning for a growth rate of 12 percent next year. Calculate the EFN for the company assuming the company is operating at full capacity. Can the company’s sales increase at this growth rate?

Most assets can be increased as a percentage of sales. For instance, cash can be increased by any amount. However, fixed assets must be increased in specific amounts because it is impossible, as a practical matter, to buy part of a new plant or machine. In this case, a company has a “staircase” or “lumpy” fixed cost structure. Assume S&S Air is currently producing at 100 percent capacity. As a result, to increase production, the company must set up an entirely new line at a cost of $5,000,000. Calculate the new EFN with this assumption. What does this imply about capacity utilization for the company next year?

Describe different leasing options and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of lease versus purchase.

Healthcare organizations face the challenge of acquiring capital to finance equipment purchases. As the Director of Rehabilitation Services in a hospital outpatient clinic, you have identified the need to acquire new isokinetic exercise equipment. You are preparing a briefing for the Assistant Administrator to discuss lease options versus purchase options for an exercise equipment system that would cost $25,000 to purchase. The useful life of the equipment is 5 years.

Based on your analysis of the scenario, the module readings, Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, address the following:

Describe different leasing options.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of lease versus purchase.
Make a decision about lease or purchase and present that option to the Assistant Administrator.
Summarize the central factors that shaped your decision to recommend lease or purchase.

Write a 3–5-page report in Word format. Utilize a minimum of 2–3 scholarly sources in your research. Your paper should be clear, concise, and organized; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

What is the main problem or issue that the author is addressing in the text “I Will Forever Remain Faithful: How Lil Wayne Helped Me Survive My First Year Teaching in New Orleans”.

Read the text “I Will Forever Remain Faithful: How Lil Wayne Helped Me Survive My First Year Teaching in New Orleans” (944 in textbook). Use the document labeled “Response/Reaction Paper” to guide your thought process. Specifically, you will pay close attention to the “Questions to Ask” section to respond to the individual text. The assignment is to read, understand, and express your opinion in a formally written essay. The paper should be approximately two pages (600-800 words). There is a minimum requirement of five complete paragraphs (with a minimum of five sentences in each paragraph). The paper should be double-spaced, properly headed, and follow all MLA formatting guidelines. You will illustrate this opinion by using evidence and analysis from the text.

Focus specifically on the following questions:

What is the main problem or issue that the author is addressing?

What is the author’s central claim, argument, or point?

What assumptions does the author make?

Questions 1-3 should be included in your introduction. This allows you to introduce the text, reveal the author’s main argument (thesis), and what information he assumes you already know. For example, does he assume you are familiar with the subject matter (Lil Wayne)?

What evidence does the author present?

You should develop a paragraph discussing important evidence the author uses to illustrate his thesis.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the text?

Instead of focusing on all of his strengths and weaknesses, perhaps, you should focus on one strength or one weakness that stands out in the overall success/failure of the text. In one paragraph, discuss something that the author does well (strength), or something the author does not do well (weakness). Explain why this approach does or does not work. Consider if this method impacts the overall success of the text and why. Consider what the audience may have expected, and how his strengths or weaknesses affect those expectations.

What are the possible counterarguments to the text’s claims?

Your conclusion should begin by considering how other readers may react to, or think about the text. Discuss one or two of these counterarguments.

Why are the problem(s) and the arguments interesting or important?

Develop a paragraph that discusses why the topic is important. More specifically, whom it is important to? If it is important to the author, say that. If it is important to society, including yourself, indicate that instead. Indicate why the topic can be relevant to other readers. Or, if it cannot, then discuss why not. If it is not interesting, you should indicate that it is not interesting, but also why it is not interesting, and perhaps suggest how it could be more interesting. Remember, it is not just about you.

In what way (if any) does the information or argument of one text strengthen or weaken the argument of others?

The second part of your conclusion should indicate the overall impact the information has on readers. Additionally, how the author presents this information should have an impact on the overall strength or weakness of his argument in opposition to other’s arguments.

Format of Paper

Introduction

Use a quote or information about or from the text to make a statement that grabs the audience’s attention.

Title of text and author’s name.

By introducing the author and the title of the text, you will only need to indicate page numbers in your in-text parenthetical citation.

Identify questions 1-3

If the text is strong or weak overall.

Why it is successful or not.

If it has good evidence or not.

“Lil Wayne slurs, hollers, sings, sighs, bellows, whines, croons, wheezes, coughs, stutters, shouts. He reminds me, in different moments, of two dozen other rappers” (945).

You have already introduced the primary text, thus, you only need to indicate what page number the quote is located.

Sentence that follows the quote from text to reiterate your original topic.

Paragraph two

Topic sentence that indicates your take on the evidence within the text.

Specific development of the topic.

One quote, paraphrase, or summary from the text.

Conclusion

Consider how readers may react to the text.

The overall impact the text has.

Follow through on the three main topics that you use in your paper to wrap up your paper.

You don’t have to repeat verbatim information you have discussed, but you do not introduce new topics in the conclusion either.

Using the Library, search for and retrieve articles to support your topic and research questions. Cite and annotate five articles from peer-reviewed journals that you would include in your literature review. In your annotation, be sure to include an explanation of how the articles relate to your dissertation topic.

Now that you have narrowed your focus to a manageable topic and problem, it is time to continue your review of the literature. This week, you will begin identifying additional resources—beyond those included in the Dissertation Premise—for your literature review (Chapter 2 of the dissertation). Remember that the dissertation process involves a great deal of exploration and reflection and that your specific focus may shift as you investigate the current literature. Refinements to the project are to be expected and are indicative of thorough and questioning research.

The Assignment (5-6 pages):

Using the Library, search for and retrieve articles to support your topic and research questions.
Cite and annotate five articles from peer-reviewed journals that you would include in your literature review. In your annotation, be sure to include an explanation of how the articles relate to your dissertation topic.
As you locate the articles, it is essential that you take accurate notes on the key points of each article. The more thorough you are now, the more useful the information will be in the future. Refer to this week’s Learning Resources for examples and insights on the literature review and developing an annotated bibliography.

Submit – a community health assessment plan (3-4 pages) for the community you selected. Identify stakeholders to be included in your community health assessment plan and explain why they should be involved.

Planning a community health assessment involves making many decisions, including who will be involved in the planning or assessment, the goals of the assessment, types of data to be collected, and methods for data collection and analysis. The success of the final assessment plan depends in part on who participates in the planning process and the extent of their firsthand knowledge of the community health issues being explored. As a public health professional, you need to have these skills in place to design a plan for community health assessment that engages those who need to be involved and that keeps the plan aligned with the original intentions.

Write a letter to a younger relative or one of your children that explains one or several aspects of your life story, personality, biography, or family life in the form of a myth that we have explored during this course. The trick here is to mythologize part of your life. In other words, write a myth that could be interpreted. Then, write a paper on the interpretation of your myth using what you have learned about myths during this course.
