The interpersonal skill I have chosen to focus on is culture. Culture is the system of learned and shared symbols, language, values, and norms that distinguish one group of people from another. Despite a very broad topic I have chosen to focus on the low and high context cultures which affects communication. The low-context culture is where a verbal communication is expected to be explicit and is often interpreted literally, where by a high-context culture is where verbal communication is often ambiguous, and meaning is drawn from contextual cues, such as facial expressions and tone of voice.This interpersonal communication topic was chosen, due to the diverse cultural upbringing I have encounter as a born Guyanese vs a naturalized citizen of the United States of America,and being misunderstood when communicating with others, due to my diverse childhood.
